Take a look at these two RM2s. The one on the right will fire on my 2 VV grands and the mechanical reos. The one on the left will not fire on the 2 VV grands but will fire on the mechanicals.

The only difference I see is that the one on the right has more threading. I don't know why it would make any difference unless it somehow prevents the center post (atty) from reaching the firing pin in the well. The one on the left is an older RM2 and the other one I got a few weeks ago.

And, I've discovered that neither the Cyclone nor the Igo-s will fire on either of my VV grands. The both have very similar threading to the one on the left.

Any thoughts?

What ohms do you have the one that won't fire on the VV's at?

Seems like the one with the most threaded area would make contact the easiest, just grasping at straws here.

Stop the presses!!! OMG, I didn't think of that, Della. You could have just solved the mystery. I'll recoil the other one and get back. *walks away muttering* I'm an idiot...this is embarrassing

Also one of the newer ones won't work with a o-ring under it on my Grands. It works fine without it.

Also
with that one RM2 I have to lower the center post to get it to read on the ohm meter.

My RM2 and the wifes RM2 are both less than 2 weeks old and they both work fine on Grands with the o-ring. Interesting......

Maybe not sub ohm but it will fire LR. I've fired 1.2-1.5 ohms on my VVG.

The 510 seal is different on the VVG than the mech's gaskets. Not sure how consistent VVGs are with the center post height but I found that my VVG requires a longer center 510 connection on the atty than my mech Reos do. On my mechs I generally run about .17" length (from the atty base to the center post) to prevent unnecessary crushing of the gaskets. On my VVG I have to use a length of .18"-.19". The VVG uses that goop/hot glue like stuff for the 510 seal. It seems to be pretty forgiving.

Dear sweet Della, you were right. It was just old Treebeard having a panicky senior moment.

I just got this one pre-owned and in my haste to try it out I forgot that the "short threaded" RM2 had a .8Ω coil.

I'm happy to say it is now firing on all cylinders with a 2.0(ish) coil.

Still in all, those thread are different though.

Thanks everybody for helping me off the ledge. Yea, reoville!;)

probably too low ohms for the VV Reo. Try going to about 2 ohms and try it. it will work.
