Any of you Derringer experts using a single coil build? I've got a non BF Tobeco clone today and the single coil flavor is disappointing so far. Vapor production is alright but I'm thinking it needs dual coils. Bought it hoping for a good single coil atty though. Seems like this thing would perform well but I'm just not getting it right now. Looks like it's going to be a mess maker too. juice everywhere.

Got my first Reo coming soon and went with a RM4 for my first atty.

Some atties are better bottom feeders than drippers. The derringer, from what I've read, is in that category. It's stellar when bf modded, and leakage is no worse than 90% of the side-air atties. The afc ring gets juicy, to be sure, but outright leaking is not bad.

As for the vape, it's great for flavour, and I wouldn't say that it's anemic for vapor production, either. With duals, it rages, runs maybe a little warm, but delivers much better flavour than the equivalent build in a lot of other atties would.

It can take a beefy single coil (say, 24 gauge) or a nice twisted, and that should not vape like a light weight.

Now, if it's flavour and nothing else you're after, a smaller atty (e.g., RM2, cyclone, chalice) will deliver more in general than a 22mm atty.

Thank you for the response. My wicks were probably too tight in the coils and too long in length. Tried using shorter tails and narrower strip of cotton and it's working more like I expected. It's not getting hot or spitting like it was and the flavor is much improved. Pretty nice for a $15 atty.

Well finally got the rm8 built and I have to say it is much more impressive to me than the rm7 I got. Both build quality and vape are better IMHO. The rm7 I got was a little more difficult to build, driptip hole was a touch under sized so I had to force on tips, and the afc caps weren't snug despite all my efforts.

The rm8 I got from Rob doesn't have any of those shortcomings and the flavor and density are much better while running the same build (28g 8wrap 2mm rod). I usually have been running Odins and a nuppin, compared to those it is more nuppin like in vape quality but I find juices to be a bit sweeter out of the RM8. Definitely a keeper [emoji106]

I'm a beginner so go easy...

Had a terrible time with it at first. Tore out my first three builds thinking it was the coils. Once I reduced the amount of wick so the air could flow across the deck, it got pretty good. I was really cussing it at first but got it figured out.

Probably could have used less cotton here but it's vaping fine. Just a regular Tobeco clone. $15 from eCiggity. I won't have a Reo / RM4 until Wednesday but I could see maybe adding an RM8 down the road.

I welcome any critique / advice.

Yes less wick! And get it a little closer to the hole. Want thst coil centered in height with the hole.

I'd say if you don't see the coils turning dark after a dozen hits it's not getting enough juice as in too much wick.
