I just ripped apart a brand new RN battery from ruyan direct, because it wasn't working and I decided to to do a search on the part number on it. It came up as a li-poly battery made by a manufacturer out of the same part of china as the manufacturer's of this model ( as well as most other models). After doing a little more research the difference between li-ion and li-poly is the casing and life of the battery(more charge cycles with li-poly).

Thanks for that bit of info, Tone. It could be very useful. Would ya let us know about any others that you dissect? I am curious about whether or not the DSE models use Li-po and about whether or not the rest of the RN lineup is Li-po. If the RN is all Li-po and the DSE is all Li-ion, it might help explain a few things.

The battery in my 901 only has -

MIO83902

written on it. Diameter 7.75mm (.305in), length 34.5mm (1.357in). Google of course doesn't turn up anything on that number, but maybe Tone or Sun has access to a battery database.

autoplay- li-ion batteries are very dangerous without proper caution and knowledge. They should not be played with by the inexperienced. This warning is posted by all retailers in virtually all countries. This has nothing to do with China. The reason the batteries and chargers are only available in China is the ecig has an unusual connector. Also, the ecig requires a custom sized battery to fit inside the skinny little tubes. Standard sizes of batteries and chargers are available in the US and most other countries. A quick google showed 16 li-ion battery manufacturers in California alone.

There are two types of li-ions, protected and unprotected. Since they can explode if overcharged or discharged too rapidly, and be destroyed if discharged below minimum voltage, they must be protected. The protected cells have an intelligent pcb that monitors out of spec conditions and shuts the battery down when the situation becomes dangerous. Ecigs use unprotected cells, and can be dangerous to a modder not familiar with lithium ion technology. They are safe to the general ecig user, however, because the ecig chargers protect them from being overcharged (> 4.2v), and the microprocessor in the ecig shuts the battery down if it is being discharged too fast or too low.

A modder must be aware of these characteristics or chance serious injury. When a modder removes the autoswitch and replaces it with a manual switch, the microprocessor protection is removed. When that happens, it is up to the user to not keep using the ecig after the battery gets low, for fear of ruining the battery. Also a manual switch that gets stuck in the on position can be dangerous from both discharging too fast and too long. Fortunately, the ecig (unmodded) wont discharge a battery fast enough to cause an explosion. But if you're winding your own heating coils and rewiring the ecig with heftier wires, that can lead to a dangerous situation. Likewise, passthroughs and charger mods can be very dangerous if an inexperienced modder isn't aware of the explosive potential of an overcharged battery. In all, you can't blame this situation on China.

I fly elec. r/c planes and helis and i cant wait for my 1st ecig to get here ,then to break down so I can tear it apart to experiment .We Use lipoly for every thing any more as li ion were quicly over taken by lipoly performance.I think i will be able to put 2 500mah cells(maybe even 2 800mah)wire it for 1000mah and stuf it in a zipo with a atomizer and cart and rig up a sliding mouth peace.sorry didnt mean to hijack.
