The issue you're experiencing is due to the "extract" containing Corn Syrup & High Fructose Corn Syrup. When you DIY, you don't want any of the flavors you mix to contain sugars in any form unless you add them yourself (and CS and HFS shouldn't be used at all).

Sugar burns (i.e. caramelizes). In lower levels of heat it takes the form of caramel, in higher and constant levels of heat it just burns. Right now, as you vape, your burning sugar on top of sugar so that's why you're getting that taste. That sugar is going to ruin the coil and the wick, if it's not already (if it's a consistent burn, it's probably time to replace them both).

With that said, the Watkins flavoring doesn't have sugar added, which is why I recommended it :). If you can't find it locally, you may need to order your flavoring online.

What Shouldn't Be in Your Flavoring:

Sugar, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Corn Syrup, Sulfites, Phosphates, too many Food Coloring's

Thanks for taking time to answer that...I almost opened new thread in DIY to ask. I guess I'll have to use my Tone's brand for root beer floats instead of DIY. It contains corn syrup, carmel color, high fructose corn syrup, water, artifical flavor, sulfites.

I tried to find the watkins brand but they only had vanilla in that flavor. I guess I'll toss what I've made as it ruins my atty's too quick.

As for food coloring I don't see point in DIY...should I only by brands that contain no food coloring?

Generally speaking, food coloring isn't harmful as such a small amount goes a long long way, but I prefer to use flavoring without it. If the chemical reaction between the Nicotine and PG/VG turns a juice a certain color, that's fine, but it won't be because I added something on my end or because I knowingly used a flavor with it on the label. To each their own with food coloring :).

In terms of Sugar, sugar will always burn. Splenda burns, Stevia burns, CS and HFS burn etc. If you're looking to add sweetness, go with Ethyl Malitol, but be careful with it. You can get a 10% solution from Wizard Labs (I think it's a 15ml vial) for $1.49 but it only takes 1-2 drops per 5 ml to give you a sweetened effect without actually sweetening anything.

It's not sugar per se, but it acts on your receptors to make them thing something is sweet even if it's not.
