So i am wanting my first rba. I have only had experience with rebuilding Protank heads, and I am semi-seuccessful at it, but I really want a good rba. I've read that the RSST is more beginner friendly, but I like the versatility of the AGI and I don't really mind replacing the center spring, so that's not too big of an issue. Some people have problems with the RSST leaking and I'm really not fond of that or the plastic tank. I like cotton, so I want to start with that, then move on to mesh. What do you guys think I should start with? One of these or something else? I don't think I want to drill out holes like a lot of people do, but I guess I could if I absolutely had to.

If you want to give something a shot that is easy to build on and will give you an idea as to whether or not you want to start building you might want to try an Igo w . Its a dripping atomizer but you may want to drip on it for awhile and rebuild a few coils, build a dual coil . I use mine with cotton wicks . I also have a bt 801 fatty clone that I use a ton as well . I am a flavor changer so tank systems seem to be out for me . I use a protank when I am going somewhere and at home I use the igo and fatty clone. I also have an aga t2 collecting dust because I like the flavor and vapor production of the dripping atomizers. If you are set on a tank system then it won't be for you . Just to give you an idea I have cotton for wicks sitting on my desk if I get bored of a flavor I just pop out the wick give the deck a quick wipe with paper towel roll a wick in about five seconds pop it in and I can add a new flavor . I soak the wick pop on the cap and get about 5 10 second drags off it then add 5 drops and get about 5 more drags .

I hope you find what you are looking for :) The igo w can be had for under 10 bucks shipped from fast tech $6.41 IGO-W Stainless Steel Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer - silver / 1.6ohm / adjustable resistance / double heating wires at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

I personally do not recommend the AGI for beginners unless you get one with an updated center post. The earlier models like I use have a chinsy "hot spring" in the center post that make for a huge overall resistance to the atty. It takes a bit of modding to get it to work properly as a genesis anyways.
I have heard good things from beginners about the RSST though-

i have enjoyed my AC9 for almost a year with no problems at all , be careful when buying clones they will disappoint and frustrate most users , i have not used the rsst but for experienced users they seem to be good but quality seems alot lower on clones so if you get a bad clone dont let it discourage you the original may be awesome you get what you pay for, on a side note i use my AC9 every day and have taken it apart only once but can clean it out just by removing the coil/wick and rinsing under sink that being said maybe taking apart a clone several times with the inferior materials may lead to more than normal wear and tear just a thought

You may want to begin with a dripper, maybe the igo-l or igo-w. They would be a bit easier to build and much easier to use cotton with.

Any of the Youde genesis-style atomizers (AGA T2, AGT, AGI in genesis mode) take some serious finesse to get working. The RSST is the preferable beginner genesis, particularly if you are planning on using SS mesh. They use a spring and a washer for the positive connection, as well as have better insulation and the wick will not get a short if it touches the bottom. All of these things make it somewhat easier to set up with an SS wick. That being said, any genesis set up with an SS wick (whether it is SS Mesh or SS Rope) takes some serious trial and error to get set up correctly.

As an example, I started with an AGA T2 and an RSST. I rebuilt them countless times, tried all of the 'methods,' and spent countless hours adjusting the coils, but still wound up with hot spots and bad taste. I then ordered a Kayfun and rebuilt it 2 times. I had it set up correctly in a matter of a few days. SS Mesh and Rope are a total headache when you first start using them. I would recommend starting with something that is a bit easier and then make it to the gennys once you have some more experience behind you.

That is a pretty decent looking clone, I paid a little over $20 dollars a few weeks ago for the UD Igo W. Pretty good deal.

O.P. the very first thing I ever built was an AGA T+,made by UD, same company that makes the AGI. I then bought the AGI, and maybe it was because of experience or just the slight difference in design, but it was easier. I have only used the AGI in tank mode, never had any problem with a spring, and just like the way it looks better than the AGA T+. If you want, check out the blogs link in the light blue bar towards the top. ehuman and Baditude both have blogs, I think they cover the AGA T, but the two are so similar that the information will work for either one.

Discountvaper has the glass tanks at a decent price should you ever need one. I broke the one in AGA T+, so I picked up two more.

I paid 19.95 for mine at a local B&M as well . I just thought I would direct the OP to a cheaper option . I don't like to wait for my stuff lol

You have the right idea, start with something like the Igo W, especially at that price point. Hey you can play with single and dual coils with it. If you like it, try something else, if you don't, you aren't out much.

Okay. So I ended up ordering the RSST. I know a lot of you said to go with an RDA (and I was surprised at how many of you said that), but I really like tanks. I know it will be a more extreme learning curve than an RDA, but hopefully since the RSST is more noob friendly, it will work out okay. Thanks everyone for your feedback, I got a lot more replies than I thought I would.

I really like the looks of the AGI, as well as the glass tank. I guess the price is decent enough that I can get one of those eventually, too. I really just want one good overall setup, but I'm sure I'll get more tanks eventually. I also got some SS 500 mesh so I can try silica, cotton, and SS mesh to see what I prefer. I want to like stainless steel since it seems like it lasts the longest by a wide margin.

The RDA was a suggestion only because I went the same route and didn't have great luck . I built wick and coils on my tank system and they worked great it just took me forever to get the hang of it . The one thing you got going for you though is the rsst iirc doesn't have the stupid thumb screws like the aga t 2 I started with . Just be patient and keep at it and make sure its not your only source of vaping , Keep your other gear working while you go through the learning process don't just put it away thinking this will be the be all end all . Good luck and happy vaping

My suggestion to start with a dripper as opposed to the RSST, was simply because I started trying on an AGA-T and an RSST. I rebuilt them and rebuilt them to where I could wrap a coil in only a few minutes. No matter how well or how many times I built the coil. I still wound up with hot spots and shorts. With SS Mesh, it takes some serious fiddling to get it just right. After a while, I just gave up and thought I couldn't rebuild. I just wish I would not have been so stubborn when I first started RBAs.

I am just starting to build working SS mesh coils. So if you get frustrated, I would seriously recommend a tank that is not genesis style

I just got an RSST last night, It only took 2 build on silica to get an amazing vape!! No hot spots. I wrapped it 4 times dual coil. Good luck with your builds. Came out to 1.1ohm

As someone new to Rebuildables
I am glad I went with the aga T2 over the RSST
However I am equally glad I got an Igo-L from fast tech and the bulldog from okcvapes
at the same time which gave me some easy toys to work with
And makes it easier to have the patients needed to go through the learning curve
and dif builds to find my way with the aga T

if your rebuilding protank coils then dealing with the rsst will be a walk in the park. I know this because i made that transition. when i first started rebuilding it was with the protank, and let me tell you, that was very frustrating. I actually bought a pack of cigs cause it was pissing me off so badly.

the rsst was my first genesis atomizer and my first attempt at it was a huge success. dont think ill be using my protank for a long time because the difference was crazy.

i will say tho that the difficulty with genesis atomizers is not the actual wrapping of the coil. that part is pretty darn easy. rolling a proper ss wick is where u need some practice. fortunately for you the rsst has an insulated wick hole and plastic bottom so you dont have to oxidize your wick or worry about it hitting the bottom of the tank.

as for the ss i recommend you get #500. I got mine off ebay. some people like to roll their wick hollow, but I prefer making a solid wick with as much ss as i can roll to fit into the hole.

your in for a real treat my friend.
