Hey all....have an RSST that I rolled a real nice SS mesh wick for, wrapped 4x with 28ga. No hot spots or anything but the flavor is so subdued. I get plenty of vapor and some flavor, but its pretty ashy.
It IS Bobas so its all VG.
I'm wondering if I rolled the wick "too" tight for a high VG juice.
Do you all roll your wicks completely tight? Would a tight wick rob the flavor, though I'm not getting dry hits?
Thoughts?

Are you tilting it so the juice can flow into the coil chamber? That's one thing I hate about these gennys and why I switched to cotton. You have to make sure to tilt when you take a vape especially with thick VG juice.

Yes I consciously tilt as I vape it. Get decent vapor production, just tastes ashy.

are you using 500 mesh or maybe 400? it could be the wick but usually the issue is with the coil. so right now if you tilt the juice away from the wick and fire the mod until the wick glows you see all coils glowing at the same time, all evenly and all the same brightness? because this is what should be happening. all coils(with no juice) should all light up at the same time, no one coil brighter then the other. if this is happening then you should also try this at the same voltage you vape at. if it still is working this way then maybe its the wick. do you run the fill screw in or out?

Some liquids don't give the same flavor with SS wicks. Boba's tastes like a smooth tobacco in my RSST. It is a different tasting juice when I use it with cotton. Some flavors are muted with SS wicking.

I'm using an AGA-T2, not an RSST, but I noticed the same. Some of the juices I enjoy the most just didn't didn't have the same full flavor with a SS wick.

I replaced it with cotton and the flavor now rivals my drippers.

OK, so with the Sunday night game on rain delay, I rolled up two more wicks, this time snipping off about 3/4" of length and rolled pretty tight, but not absolutely solid. Im able to squeeze them just a little. They have a little play in the wick hole too. Got Bobas in one and MMV Sweet Mother of Mercury in the other. So far both are very yummy.
They're both giving off much more vapor too.
So it seems as though my wicks were just a tad too tight to wick efficiently.
Thanks for your input gang.

Man I just can't seem to get the cotton right with a micro coil. My coils are good but no matter how skinny the cotton wick, the coil burns out the wick. Too much hassle. I've had good luck with cotton in normal coils but not micros.

not sure what device your using but the amount of cotton differs with certain devices. in my reo slightly smaller is better then slightly larger, but in my kayfun its the opposite. if you use to small of a piece in the kayfun you will get a burnt taste. i know a lot of people say a smaller cotton wick is better but i have found that to be not entirely true. in my reo i have tried to small of a piece and it doesn't perform as well as a slightly larger piece. with that being said the perfect amount of cotton is the best, but i would error on slightly denser then the opposite
