RSST Micro-Coil tips and pics.

Hello ECF,

So I recently have been started to dabble with some micro-coils for my RSST. I know it's not necessarily ideal to do on a vertical wick RBA, but hey I want to learn it all. I am having problems with getting the coils to heat up. I wrapped around a mini-screwdriver which is basically the same size as my wick and though I got the coils pretty darn close to each other, not all were touching. Which I think is my problem. How do you guys get them all to touch and so compact? I am using 30 gauge kanthal, so maybe it's harder to do with a thinner wire I don't know. Also do both legs touch the center-coils as well? Been looking for pictures for micros with a vertical wick and haven't found many. I do torch all my wire before I wrap so it's not as stiff too. Any pictures or tips to get that nice, tight coil-set up would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

are you just trying to get lower ohms? Try parallel wires as your coils

I am not sure what the hell im doing wrong. It's like at 4.7 ohms right now. Well what it reads. I heard I should really care about that too much though. It does seem crazy high and im just getting frustrated lol. Maybe this delve was a poor life decision.

What mod are you using?
How are you checking ohms?
How many wraps did you do?

Its a delicate balance between low resistance and heat conservation effect of micro. Yes, you can go much higher than usual in resistance, but too high is still too high.

However, 4.7 ohm sounds more like loose contact to me. At the center post.

Using a pro-vari mini. Just using the built in ohm reader on device. The center post is snug and it seems the connection is good. I finally got the top half of the coils working, but the bottom is just nothing. I am so confuzzled lol. And I can't for the life of me get all the coils to touch. I can get like half and thats it. Ughh, maybe its the 30 gauge im using and makes it near impossible to get right

I ran into the same problem with the RSST. It has a very tall center post, thats why you cant get the wraps to touch: theres too much space to cover.

What i did was double up my 30awg wire and wrap the coil that way. So you can wrap it less times around the wick and still have a tall coil. Less resistance too.

What do you mean double-up? and do you wrap multiple times around the center post for micros?

Like parallel lines. Your "wire" is no made of two parallel wires. What that does is it turns your coil into a dual coil, on the same wick. This also works best with micro since the wraps help heat each other up.

Wrapping multiple times around center post is optional. I dont do it.

Kinda lost on what you mean with parallel lines lol. So two wires instead of one? And just weave them kind of thru each other? Any videos on this? I am completely lost on what you mean lol. I appreciate all your help though, you are always very helpful on all my noob forum posts

Like say if have a long piece of wire, you fold it end to end then flatten it. Then you will have a new wire: made up of two paralel lines. Use that as a single wire, wrapping just like normal. Only thing you have to pay attention to is keeping all the lines touching the wick. Makes sense?
