Hi peeps I recently got my 1st rebuildable tank a smok RSBT hybrid and I'm looking for some advise on how best to build it I tried the factory build and it was a bit poo not much vapour and just not amazingly nice so have had a play trying to rebuild it and so far just can seem to get the results I'd like I've seen several different theories regarding stuffing cotton in the deck or not stuffing but not having any experience I just thought I'd ask some peeps who may know any help or advise greatly appreciated :)

First off, the RSBT is a genesis atty so it's going to work better with stainless steel mesh... Look up a youtube video on how to make a stainless steel wick, then wrap your coils around the mesh directly & lock it down. Pulse it until you can get your coils to glow from the inside out while in contact with the wick. Then add your juice and enjoy

@Dissonance; The RSBT isn't a Genny, your thinking of the RSST...

Crispy,

PBusardo has a good video that should help you with building/wicking your RSBT...

I think I am putting too much wick through the little holes and choking them a bit as I keep getting dry hits :s

Yes, maybe; they're easy to choke, but if you don't get just enough wick, then they leak like a sieve. I found the best compromise was to cut off half the width of the wick so it's *JUST* at the openings; let the other half of the width lie inside the head, to soak up excess. And cotton works a lot better in that tank than rayon. At least it did for me; no idea why. With rayon I got either dry hits or total leaking mess, nothing in-between.

With cotton I was getting dry hits then if I left it a min I got a good 1 or 2 hits then dry again which led me to think I had over done it I have tried some silica wick in had lying around and got slightly better results seems like such a fine line to get a good useable build :s

Yeah, it does work pretty well with silica; I tried the wick that came with it, first off. I just don't get as much flavor from silica. Then I tried the rayon, got dry hits or leaks. Then I tried the organic cotton, the way I described, where half the wick is at the little openings, but half of it is lying inside the head. That worked pretty well. With cotton, remember the pass-phrase: "less is more." :D With this tank, that really is true, but there does need to be just a little lying inside the head, to keep it from leaking.

I got an RSBT as maybe an alternative to the quartz kit on a kayfun, those are such a pain to fill; but this one is such a pain to build, it's probably about 6 of one, half-dozen of the other, in terms of hassle. And I like the way the kayfun vapes better anyway. The RSBT is just a little too airy for my liking, but I like a tighter draw.

Took me a week or two to really nail wicking my kayfun constantly. Too much cotton can choke the coil. Not enough can cause dry hits too. I'm glad that I learned on a single coil.

If you like the RSBT a lot, then you may not care for the Kayfun; you can adjust the airflow, of course, on a KFL+, but a lot of folks say it's "too tight" -- I guess they're the lung hitters. I close it down completely, then open just one half turn, and that suits me very well -- but there's only one thing I've ever lung hit, and it doesn't have anything to do with tobacco. :D I want vaping to feel as much like smoking cigarettes as my memory/habit recalls/demands -- obviously it tastes a lot better and doesn't burn, but I still need approximately the same sensation. So, mouth-to-lung, always.

I know what u mean I do lung hit drippers but that's a different game to everyday vaping for me the rsbt has only ever had 2 holes open and quite often only 1 hole the only thing I've ever found tight was a iclear 16b and I drilled the holes on that but i don't need a massive airflow for a tank a bit of adjustability is nice to have so will probably give the kayfun a crack if only to see what all the hype is about plus I do like shiney things lol

Oh yh btw I take it the kayfun is a bit more subtle in the way it hits?

Hmm... well it's a flavor tank, and really delivers. I also found it gave me a MUCH better throat hit than the T3S tanks I had used before I got the kayfun; I had to go from 85%PG to 80%PG, so it didn't make me cough. I don't find it "tight" at all, as i said I keep mine right next door to closed completely, but it really does provide very clear, true flavor -- so clear, that for some juices, it's a bit much -- my favorite blueberry muffin/banana nut bread tastes much better from a cartotank than from a kayfun. But for the very light, delicate flavor of the Virginia I started with, a kayfun is superb.
