Who are we kidding when we talk about the "standards" of nano/micro/macro...we're making this stuff up as we go along. ;)

I didn't see this mentioned, so thought I'd mention it in regards to dual coils. The thing to remember is that when you run dual, your resistance of both coils is cut in half. If you run quad (ridiculous on a Kayfun, of course), it would be divided by four. So, when you want to dive into dual coil, just remember that your resistance of each coil has to be around twice what you want to end up at. (e.g. for a 1 ohm coil, you'd wrap 2 2-ohm coils.) But I agree, stick with one coil for now...maybe try out duals on a RDA, which will be a bit easier on you.

As for some other tips I might throw in, I've found 28GA to last quite a bit longer on my RDA's than thinner gauge. I've found I prefer "micro-coils" myself, usually over cotton which is a bit easier to replace than silica...and I find it tastes a wee-bit better. (I operate on the concept that micro is fairly small and touching.) If you're running an APV, you probably want to aim for 1.2ohm or above. Lower ohms will produce more vapor, more quickly...but there's absolutely nothing wrong with higher resistance coils. Other than that, watch a few build videos to see some different methods...then just pick one and go with it! Once you have things down, play with things and you'll learn like the rest of us are doing!

Anyway, I just wanted to congratulate you on your Russian. I started rocking a Kayfun last week and have been loving it so far. I moved up from the RDA world 'cause I'm running into some juices these days that I want more, more more of...and these tanks are absolutely awesome for that!

In my own use of the Russia 91% I think the biggest issues for me were that the build block has a tendency to spin and it has a dual center pin. The Kayfun Lite has a single center post that is used to hold the build block in place as well as adjust the connection to your mod. The Russian 91% has a post and a screw in the center. I would recommend removing the center screw (this is the connection adjustment) and tightening down the center post (while holding the blocks in alignment with a pair of vice grips) as to eliminate build block spinning. Then replace the adjustable connection screw. My center adjustment screw is a bit loose so whenever I screw it into a device it twists in a bit.

Just some stuff to look out for.

There is a gotcha when you take out the center screw. If you look inside the hole where the center screw is removed, there is an insulator sitting on the inside that isn't shows in any of the tear down videos I have seen. You need to make sure this insulator is seated correctly on the inside before re-inserting the center screw. It it's not seated correctly you will experience constant shorts. If you tighten the center screw too tight you can compress this insulator which could potentially cause shorts or even breaking it.

cyndezu.... sorry I missed your post yesterday. My coils are touching, so guess you would call it a micro. It's so simple to do if you just take your time. My biggest concern when putting things together was the cotton and how much to use. When I put the cotton in the coil it has just a bit of resistance when pulling it back and forth. That seems to be just right at least for me.
I like this device to much I'm now looking for another one. Now to find the elusive vendor that has them in stock.

Thanks, carrielsal.... will check that out. I'm amazed at the popularity of these devices and how easy they are to set up. Having a ball trying out different coil / wick combinations. Want to give the vertical a go soon after watching a few videos. Always something new to try, right??

Once you go with the Russian its hard to go back to anything else, except drippers. I got a .6 ohm single coil in there and its beasting on my hana. I can put 4ml of e liquid in there and be good all day. I switch out the cotton 1-2 times a week which is perfect because you wanna clean the thing each time you change a cotton anyways.

Pay attention to the quote above.

I purchased a Russian about 2 weeks ago and when I received it the positive pole was kicked off at an angle. I loosened the air duct, got out a small crescent wrench and tightened up the air duct. Seemed ok and I built several coils on it but every single time I screwed it on my Provari or a mech the adjustment screw would torque and twist causing the positive pole to short. I messed with it for 8 days trying to find something, anything, that'd work right up to the point that the air duct sheared off in the positive pole about a thread and a half from being bottomed out.

I bought the Russian and was really jazzed about the collector tank but after this experience I'm not so sure about it.

As always, YMMV.

I'm in disbelief at how many R91 owners had the same problem when first getting it.
It's unacceptable that so many are sent out with the loose deck on a $90 atty.

What further ...... me off was the rep at Vapor Kings, where I bought it, had no knowledge how to fix it and their position that it is an RBA for advanced users and the user should expect it not to work out of the box.

Had it not been for a video that I found on ecf, I would have sent back mine and written it off.

Now that I have it set up, it's my favorite way to vape.

What do you mean by knocked off at an angle? I assume you mean just turned. If you're having intermittent shorts, most likely the Base Isolator is not in straight. I had the same issue. Completely remove the center pin. The positive block and isolator square will come off. Flip the 91% upside down and look in the center hole to find the base isolator. Shake it out and you'll see how it sits inside the base.

Mine was loose from adjusting the 510 connector so I just un-screwed the bottom screw and tightened the insulator screw, once I re-adjusted it.

I thought in vaping that the term micro coil was used when making a coil where each turn touches and it heats from the inside out. Did I get that wrong?

Sorry I didn't write that as clear as I thought I had. You're right though, a micro coil is in fact a contact coil.:thumbup:

You are correct about all the coils touching but micro coils also have a size requirement. Usually to be considered a micro coil it is 1/16" or smaller. Nano coils also have a size requirement but I cannot remember the number at this time.

All the "nano coil" builds I've seen and tried have been around a 20g syringe, or a paperclip. But I may be slightly off again due to lack of sleep.

My Russian 91% from Kebo did come with a blow apart parts diagram -- found it with the spare parts in bottom of the box. It was pretty small and not very helpful, but indeed there was one. I've yet to buy vaping gear that comes with instructions or parts lists / diagrams -- the mfg's must figure vapers are all very intuitive people!!
