Rusted IGO-L

I have an IGO-L with two coils and some silica wick. I pulled off the cap and drip tip and then put all 3 pieces in a small glass filled with some cheap vodka. I let it sit overnight, took it out and then let it dry. There are rust spots all over the inside on the cap now. There is no rust anywhere other than on the inside of the cap. Does this mean it wasn't properly treated when it was made? I'm thinking it's just low-grade clone (got it from fasttech). Any input/suggestions?

Cool, I also bought several low end atomizers from fasttech that developed rust. You get what you pay for...

I have the igo-l and nimbus clone on the way from fastech hope it doesn't rust on me :/ What do you think was the cause to the rusting?

Could have been any number of things. I ran all kinds of juices through it from menthol to citrus, I don't know exactly when it started rusting.

I soaked mine in vodka with no rusting, but only for a couple of hours.

Like I said, I think it's the fact that I bought a clone (well its from FastTech so I'm assuming it's a clone). I bought an authentic IGO-L and will be running it through the same juices and cleaning process, we'll see what happens.

I don't understand why so many people are opting for the $7 fasttech IGO-L over the sub $15 real IGO-L. The real ones will not do this, and are a hell of a deal considering what you get for your money.

I bought my fasttech one to see if I liked the IGO-L. Now that I know I do I will be getting a couple of real ones.

Exactly, I got the IGO-L from FastTech because it was my first Rebuildable, I didn't want to use anymore money than I had to in case I didn't end up liking it.

But, now that I know I do I am getting the real things.

Are you quite sure it's rust and not the chrome plating being eaten off showing brass underneath? I'm not questioning your eyesight or anything. I have an atty that I thought was rusted but it just turned out to be bare brass.

Yeah lol. It's rust, I don't have it with me at the moment or I'd put up a picture. I'd clean it off and see what happens from there but when I can get a real one (now that I know I like them) for $10, I don't think it's worth the hassle.

304 and higher SS dose not rust but 300 series will. This means low grade metal was used or possible when it was machined ferrous metal was transferred to the SS this happens with poor quality machining also. As you already pointed out its a cheapo.

No chrome plating. I drilled a new hole in mine on the opposite side of the stock one and went through 4 drill bits. That stainless is tough!

Yeah B&Ms can be overpriced, I got bent over for my first drip tips. But it got me started so no complaints from me.

Oh! I didn't realize they were SS. Everything rusts here. I've got a nice pile of rusty 316L.

Is it possible you used Nichrome for your coil and that it was touching the cap? Nichrome does rust.
