I am planning on getting one of yihi's sx series chips and have seen these class designators on a few places, but haven't found any info describing the differences. I'm hoping someone here can provide some clarity.

M class has temp limiting, a slightly different body style, and is heavier. the M also has more color choices.
M class for sure, handled both and love the m, it has a bit of weight to it also 
As has been said the M class is the newer version with temp control. Besides that a few other things were updated on the physical side like the button being smoothed out, as well as a few other sharp corners to make it more comfortable in the hand. They've also done something to it internally because its got a noticeable amount of weight added to it.
For the few bucks more that it costs, I'd just go with the M class.

If you are going to use the temp control feature on the M class on a daily basis, your best bet is getting the M Class. I bought my M class last week and gave my S Class to the wife. She loves it since she doesn't want to get into temp control. Let me tell you, she is missing out!!!!

I prefer the S. I have no need/use for temp control though. If you do, go straight to the M and don't look back.
If not though, the weight difference is significant, and is a difference maker for me. So there are SOME out there who actually do prefer the earlier model. Or, better stated, at least ONE (out here...).
Both are pretty dayum awesome though - make no mistake about that.

I believe I heard that YiHi was discontinuing the S Series... does anyone know if the S is still available?

I have and love them both. The "M" stays in the house and the "S" goes to work with me. If I could only have one it would be the "M". The new firmware update makes it an even better device than it was the day I bought it.
According to Yihi's Facebook page, they said that they were discontinuing the S class.
