Hey Everyone,

First let me say that just in case you guys think any different, I love my Volt! I'm not claiming that SI is inconsistent at all... I'm merely saying it how I see it. Moving on...

Shortly after I purchased my Volt, I saw a review where the reviewer made a model of the Volt Cartomizer and explained why Volt Cartomizers don't burn. She showed what appeared to be a system that completely separated the atomizer coil and wick from the silica tubing and filler gauze.
It appears to me what I have is something different. I've checked with the people at Smokeless Image and they claim to have not changed anything in their cartomizers other than moving from Hard Cap Tips, to Soft Caps with a Rubber Bushing, to just a soft cap drip tip that is thicker and prevents liquid from getting in your mouth. Everything else in the cartomizers is supposed to be the same.

The difference I saw or think I see is in the atomizer coil, wick and silica tubing. Her atomizer was contained in a small cap containing the coil, that was press fit to the bottom of the cart and had silica tubing that was adhered to the top of that small cap that contained the atomizer coil. This meant that no matter what, the filling nor the silica tubing could not burn because it did not touch the atomizer.

Mine, seems to be missing that small cap containing the coil and is not even separate from the silica tubing or the filler gauze... Instead, the coil is wedged between a sliced silica tube and connected to the base of the cartomizer at the base. The result, seems to be some badly burnt filler and silica tubing. This design actually closely resembles the new horizontal coil 808 cartomizers from GoodProphets, where the silica tube is split down the middle and the coil is wedged between it about half-way down the silica tube.

Has anyone else taken the SI Volt cartomizer apart and found anything different than what I've described?

Please see the attached photo's for a better understanding of the parts and how mine was constructed. Thanks!

I can use cartos and rarely singe one (and then only slightly) though I have not tried the SI/Bloog ones yet. I use Vapor4Life WOW cartos. With the juices I use now, a week later the stuffing still goes white when it needs liquid.

I believe SI had different cartos then switched to the same ones Bloogplanet uses because people preferred them?

I keep cartos damp. I also avoid thick juices and juices that drop flavoring sediment. I use juices with 20% or less VG.

Sokay... Maybe that didn't come out right. This is not complaint. This was meant to be more of an observation. I also didn't mean for this to be about burning cartomizers... I realize that all devices are technically "disposable" and that they will eventually wear out. So let me clear the water a bit.
I said that the "reviewer" of the Volt cartomizer said that these carts don't burn and gave her observations, not SI. A person from SI just told me that they haven't changed "anything" except for what I mentioned.

@swedishfish Thanks for the pointers on cartos and the links. I'll check those out.
@sln88 Is that thread within the "New Member" section, cause if it isn't... I can't post there. I actually looked in the supplier section and didn't see smokeless image there... I saw Bloog, but not SI.

Thanks again

Don't worry about it man. You have made some very good points and observations. Volts as well as other cartomizers in general have some inconsistencies. Which is a shame since these issues with QC should have been fixed by now but they're not. Some have better luck than others. But, like the people above me said. All cartos burn sooner or later.

I really think you would like the burning cartomizer thread. They cover/discuss in depth about all the positives and negatives about all cartomizers. As you have seen on your carto. There is adhesive covering the little plastic o-ring which causes some questions about how safe it is to inhale the fumes that come from it during use. This can be related to all horizontal type cartos IMO. They are all designed the same way and have the same materials in them. S

Alright... After some digging, I found that what I have seems to be what others have. I still haven't found one that looked like the one that the reviewer had. Too bad... That one looked like it would really keep you from burning a cart too.
Oh well, for now... I'm gonna order some more Volt Cartos and make sure I keep them wet. Thanks for your help folks!

Sucrose should not be used in cartos. Sucrose is sugar. Do you mean sucralose (splendex)? I don't think sucralose would do that. A dark juice can stain the stuffing and many dark juices leave dark flavoring sediment behind.
Haha... Dang spell check. Yes... I meant Sucralose. I figured I spelled it wrong.
Also... I've realized that I've already made my 5 posts, cause I talk too much. :p. I've only scratched the surface in that Burned Carto thread... That thing is a beast!!
Thanks again.

I have had sweet juices burn in a carto. The juice itself, not the carto. Mostly fruit juices from a vendor who uses all natural flavoring. After a day, when I blew the catro out the remaining juice would come out dark brown to almost black. I don't know if it was harmful, but I couldn't stand the thought of it. I switched juice vendors. This one still uses natural flavorings but I don't get burning after only one day. I'm not sure what was different. I don't like sweeteners for the same reason.

Thanks MustangSallie... I'll take that into consideration the next time I order some juices.

Again... I'd like to clarify that I'm not so much concerned about the carts burning. I realized--before I posted-- that cartomizers will burn... eventually. I was just wondering if anyone took apart the older hard capped cartomizers from SI and saw something different from what I've shown. Thanks guys. :)

I use the Volt cartos, batts and juice. I've got cartos that are several weeks old that I vape until they're all but dry and take 20 to 25 drops to refil with no burning at all. Until....I put juice from a very popular vendor who's mix is 70pg/30vg and sweeter. Then I only get a day or two before performance drops and the slight burnt taste starts creeping in. At that point I take the batting out and use them for dripping if they're not in too bad a shape. The reviewer you're talking about says she uses some thicker juices and they do ok with it. Lucky for me I like several of SI's juices but I still use some others and consider the cartos a cheap writeoff for the pleasure. They're supposed to be disposable anyway. I've got other pvs but the Volt is my everyday all day vape. Great results, decent battery - carto life with minimum hassle.

Very Interesting... The only ones that burned were also from a very popular vendor with the same 70/30 mix with sweetener.
Their juices are flipping delicious, so no burning cart is ever gonna stop me from vaping their e-liquids.
Also interesting that you say you pull out the batting and start dripping. I might try that before I take my next one apart.
