So, after raving about five pawns "Grandmaster," I noticed an alarming trend: after a few minutes of vaping GM, I would get a strange splitting headache that would last for up to an hour after my last drag (for lack of a better term). So. I gave up on the flavor, but not soon enough to cut the ensuing migraine off at the pass. My question is, which ingredient is causing this? I had this happen with other flavors in the past (Banana Nut Bread from MFS), but never managed to pin down the offending ingredient.

I'm apprehensive now about testing new flavors. :-/

Tucson, it's a dry heat
I'll take it off your hands ;)

Grandmaster is peanut butter and banana for the most part. Perhaps the common denominator is banana (like the banana nut bread.) Or do you have an allergy to peanuts? What nic is it?

EDIT: It's a 50/50 mix, do you have an issue with PG or VG? I'm sorry you're having problems with GM, it's my ADV, but not all juices work for everyone.

It's 12mg nic. I have no issues with PG or VG or nuts that I know of. In fact, until recently I vaped 100% PG. I was wondering if it could be the banana. Or maybe it's a sucralose issue? It's hardly what I would consider a "sweet" or sugary juice, though. I vape much sweeter, without any negative side effects. It's such a bummer, because it is such a tasty e liquid. My favorite to date. :(

I bet it's the banana - they use flavors "extracted from actual base ingredients". Can you eat bananas? I'm not sure what sweetener they use. Can you cut it? I cut mine with MBV (cheap) whipped cream and graham cracker.

I actually have something of a latex fruit sensitivity. It usually doesn't manifest in migraines, but I will get itchy and rashy. I avoid bananas *most* of the time, but sometimes I just take my chances and endure the mild rash. Maybe inhaling banana based liquid affects me differently, though? :( Boo. Grandmaster is too good. Do you know what they use to sweeten the liquid?

What other flavors are you vaping that do NOT produce this effect?

Right now....the rotation consists of Lemon Coconut Cookie (Pink Spot), Starship 1, Blueberry, Maraschino Cherry, and a menthol juice....No problems whatsoever with any of the others.

I discovered that a handful of flavourart flavorings get me like that - not sure if it was an official migrane, but they do give me a headache so bad I get sickly...

Yeah! Initially this wasn't an official migraine either. It would start a few minutes after I started vaping it, get progressively worse as I continued, then let up about an hour later. It was more....behind my eyes and "all over" than the usual one-sided migraine. I kept testing my theory that it was the GM for a couple of days (because I am migraine prone and wanted it to be just about anything else), but it happened like clockwork every time I picked up the GM. Finally, I think after a couple of days of expanding/contracting vascular activity, it bloomed into a full fledged migraine.

So sorry about your headaches, I have lived with migraines and allergies. When you said initially it wasn't an official migraine and was behind your eyes it really sounded like a sinus headache which can happen when allergies are involved and of course if your prone to migraines eventually one will flare up. It really might be the banana ....... allergies can be funny for instance I can eat hazelnuts but when I drink hazelnut flavored coffees, I get hives and a sinus headache. I love hazelnut but am afraid to try a hazelnut flavored nic juice. I hope you find out what the trigger is and feel better soon.

Migraines are the worst! I do believe that many of them are triggered by allergies. I've noticed a strong relationship between the migraines and spices, particularly, that are high in tannins. Cinnamon, cumin, cloves, paprika. Hazelnut flavored coffee almost always brings one on, too! Even though, I am fine with the nuts themselves. Again, I think it must be related to tannin levels in the flavoring itself. The scent always smells so tempting, but I steer far away from hazelnut flavored anything. I'm sorry to hear you experience migraines as well. I know how debilitating they can be. I really wish there were more effective therapies available. :(

I would test the nic level first. That is usually the reasons for headaches, also if you dont drink enough water and you are dehydrated. Hope you feel better and get to the bottom of it.

Thank you. I am feeling better tonight. Naps and Imitrex saved the day. I'm pretty sure it isn't a nicotine level issue. I normally vape around 24mg. Not ideal, I know, so I'm trying to cut down. I've been vaping 18mg and 6mg off and on, since last weekend. Only this one 12mg juice brings on a headache, and I feel fairly confident the nic level is right around 12mg because it doesn't produce a tremendous throat hit by any means. I think it has to be a sweetener or banana flavoring issue.

:)

My daughter used to get terrible migraines (are there any that aren't?) and had to give herself shots for years... very dangerous ones but she was disabled without them. She also had specialists and among them those who put her on special diets which helped greatly when she stuck to them which is hard to do with what's in the grocery stores. It pretty much eliminates most prepared food... even some types of bread. Living on it, you really learn how to cook and bake from scratch. I'm sure those diets are on the net.

Anyway, as for flavorings. Remember these are artificial flavorings unless you're buying organic juices. Artificial means chemically created to simulate the taste of a food. For instance, artificial vanilla flavoring doesn't have a drop of vanilla bean in it. Its all chemicals to simulate the taste of real vanilla from the bean. So, unless you can find out what that "banana" flavoring, for instance, is actually made of its not likely you'll be able to pin down the offending chemical. You would first have to find out what's in the flavoring (the chemicals) and then find out what chemicals compose every other flavoring used in a new juice you want to try. The only flavoring and/or juices I've been able to find out exactly what all the ingredients used in it are are the Chinese ones. The vendor gets a print out with each flavoring they'll be able to share with you. I don't know of any US-made flavoring that routinely give that info. Anyway, the gist of the migraine headache diet btw is to cut out all artificial flavoring and foods (ever wonder why the big claims of "contains REAL cheese... because all cheese is not real... artificial cheese LOL, coloring and preservatives as well as a lot of other offenders like soy. Anyway... one possibility is to try organic juices if you're not already using them because they come directly from real food. If you aren't allergic to that food, you should be okay with the juice or at least know if its a no no on the migraine diet. Hope that helps.
