Hi all, first post, glad to be here! Smoked tobacco for 30 years, quit and switched to APV's about 6 months ago. I started out with an iTaste VV 3, and EVOD, and some good domestic juice from a trusted friend / source. So I've learned enough to know most of the basics now, but still feel like a noob with more to learn every day as I explore this new enoyable "hobby" that may have possibly added years to my life expectancy :)

Long story short - I recently bought the full size Aspire Nautilus tank and now I want to buy an iTaste SVD mod because as you experienced folks probably know, the Nautty is pretty top-heavy for a small bat like the VV 3.

But my big concern is this - buying the correct batteries for my use of the SVD. Since I'm a "tank" vaper who will be using common things like 1.6ohm to 2.2ohm coils in my collection of Kanger EVOD, T3S, Protank Mini 2, and Aspire Nautilus, I'm concerned that the batteries I'm considering buying for the SVD are the proper and SAFE ones.

I'm looking at buying the Samsung ICR18650-30B Li-Ion 3000 mAh 3.7v batteries. Would that be a safe choice for the iTaste SVD using Aspire and Kanger tanks with their respective disposable coils?

If anyone would be so kind as to share your opinions and knowledge I'd really appreciate your input.

Thanks much!

im using the purple e-fest 3100mah in mine, they last a long time. I use a kayfun lite plus with 1.3ohm micro coil at 14 watts and it last 2-3 days.

not sure if those are protected batteries, but if they are, they will NOT work on an svd.

Wow, glad I came here and asked first!

I was under the impression that since the iTaste SVD has Short Circuit Protection / Reverse Battery Protection , and the Samsung ICR18650-30B specs say it is a "Protected" battery that they would go together.

Glad I didn't buy yet.

I just started reading an ECF article I found here (won't let me post the link) and I'll start surfing through the ECF Batteries and Chargers forum today too to see if I can find lists of trusted sources.

tj99959 - based on what you said, it looks like Broseiden's battery model suggestion is a safe bet so I assume they're available at all the trusted sources I'll find. The reason I was looking at the Samsung model is because that's what a vendor I buy other gear from sells.

Thanks for the already enlightening replies!

After checking out the Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR? article that Susan-S just posted in reply to another thread, it brings another question to mind:

For someone like me who is just tank vaping (not dripping) with the SVD do I really need the higher than 10 amperage?

To help explain my question, on that article one of the safe brands / sets of models listed is like this:

Efest IMR
18650 2250mAh 10A
18650 2000mAh 10A
18650 1600mAh 30A

So out of those three, I'd be inclined to go for the 2250mAh for longer life between charges, but I'm not sure if 10A as opposed to 30A would make a difference for my setup.

Can anyone shed some light on that please?
Thanks again!

Good catch, thank you! I didn't notice that the SVD was max 5 amp max current output until you mentioned it and I re-read the specs.

I think I've narrowed this down to one last question now - since it appears most places I'm looking at Efest and AW batteries right now are all at least 20A , is that still OK to use with the SVD?

I'm assuming so since the 20 amp efests and AW are being used in so many devices and I feel dumb for even asking but I just want to be safe.

Yes; as long as the battery can put out more current than you would need you're good.

You seem confused, 10a CDR is plenty for your svd, anything over that isn't necessary for it to function at its full potential.
Using a 20a or 30a battery will not improve its performance in any way, nice just to have, sure.

The most important thing when buying batteries is to buy from a reputable vendor / dealer.

Indeed I was very confused, which is why I joined here today. :)

The hardware vendors where I buy my gear are selling ICR batteries to go with these SVD mods. I felt unsure, but I know enough that proper batteries / safety are very important so I came here to seek help in sorting it all out.

I've taken the advice from replies here and advice on the ECF "Battery Basics for Mods" blog page, and now feel confident I made the right purchase from the recommended place.

No longer confused thanks to the help I've received here this morning. Hopefully I can help someone else out someday too now.

Edit - In fact, I just sent an email to the vendor (a popular well known one) where I ordered my SVD to let them know that they probably shouldn't be selling ICR batteries for it and sent them the link to the ECF "Battery Basics for Mods" article. Hopefully vendors will catch-on and start including IMR batteries in their online shops.

Having used both Efest and AW batteries, I strongly urge you to go with the AW 18650 IMR 2000mAh batteries. (And by the way, they are 10 amps, not 20.)

Efest has been known to over-rate their battery specs. Purple Efest Batteries Not As Advertised

AW does not make the batteries they sell. They buy huge lots of batteries from the major Japanese manufacturers. Not all batteries are created equal. AW inspects/tests each individual battery for specs and consistancy, then uses only the best to sell as AW batteries. Therefore you can be assured that you are getting a high quality and consistant battery for the slightly higher price you pay for them. I've used Efest batteries which lost half of their charging ability after only a months use. I've got a few AW batteries that I purchased 2 years ago which are still going strong.

Buy your batteries from authorized battery vendors who can verify the source of the battery from the manufacturer. Buying from local vape shops, Ebay, or Amazon increases the risk that you could be buying a poor quality counterfeit AW battery. I buy all of my batteries through RTD Vapor.

Don't forget about the 18350's and the 18490's! Still go with safe chemestry batteries (IMR), but I have AW 18650's and Efest 18350's and 18490's I like using on my SVD with tanks. One 18490 will last the work day and an 18350 will go half a day, so having 2 batteries with ya helps. I like using the shorter batteries because at full lenght, the SVD is freakin huge!
