This is more of a curious question than anything, but I was wondering if e-liquid can only be sweet or salty too? Even most of the tobacco flavors I've tried so far have a hint of sweetness to them.

I'm aware there are some stranger flavors out there (only one of these I've really tried is roast chicken, which does taste like roast chicken but isn't at all salty), and I've heard of things like roast beef or possibly a curry flavor becoming available. I'm just wondering if it's possible to add the taste of salt to flavors like these, or if that's inherently not possible due to the makeup of the liquid.

might be possible. The main problem is that all the various "flavors" are actually scents. There are only 5 basic tastes (sweet, salty, bitter, sour, umami) but overall flavor comes from your retro nasal passages and olfactory system. There's something like 50 million nerves there. The reason chocolate tastes like chocolate is because it's sweet and "smells" like chocolate.
Offhand, I can't think of anything that "smells salty" other than seawater & that may be just an association in my head...

glad to see all those years of wine training are finally paying off...:)

hmm. simulated salt in my esmoke. that would help me with my high blood pressure. well, that and a new president in 2012...

seriously, though, the flavorings used in the majority are candy flavorings. i cant think of any candy flavorings that would be all that salty.

Check out the flavors here: Flavourart Express shop

Many savory flavors that could be used in the same way Loranne's are. They don't have to be candy flavor. I would like a way to give it a salty taste as well. I have the Roast Beef flavor from Decadent Vapours, but I don't like it because it has no seasoning or saltiness to it. It tastes just like unseasoned beef broth. You can't really taste it, but it smells really strong. It needs the saltiness or some seasoning to make it taste good. I was thinking of getting the Soy Sauce flavoring to see if that had a salty quality to it, but I haven't had the means to make an order yet.

I think maybe what you mean is SAVORY flavor? Like not sweet, but savory, which would be anything that is not sweet. As opposed to really wanting a salty flavor, right? Like, pies come in sweet and savory...sweet being chocolate pie, banana cream, apple, etc, and savory pies being meat and cheese pies, pot pie, etc.
I have seen a kung pao chicken, but thats it. I will have to check these other links you guys have posted...
how about roast beef? broccoli cheese baked potato? lobster?
I could see myself gaining weight if I tried to vape those....would make my mouth water!

I would love to have a salty flavoring maybe something like pretzel, potato chip or salted peanuts :) my only concern would be that if salt was used when vaped it would leave a crusty salt residue that could damage the atomizers

I would say you couldn't use actual salt, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's some sort of synthetic that's natural state is a liquid form. Whether or not that synthetic would be safe to vape would be another question.

Buttered Popcorn. Many suckers have been flavored as such. I would love a vapor to taste the same way.

Your ONLY concern would be possible damage to the atomizer? What about salt in the lungs?

Diacetyl. naturally produced during fermentation of wine and beer. Responsible for those "buttery" Chardonnays women love and also the same ingredient used in "butter-flavored" popcorn. should be fairly easy for a manufacturer to put together.

Whoa! NEVER MIND!

did some quick research and came up with this on Diacetyl (from Wikipedia)

The United States National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has suggested that diacetyl, when used in artificial butter flavoring (as used in many consumer foods), may be hazardous when heated and inhaled over a long period.

Workers in several factories that manufacture artificial butter flavoring have been diagnosed with bronchiolitis obliterans, a rare and serious disease of the lungs. The cases found have been mainly in young, healthy, non-smoking males. There are no known cures for bronchiolitis obliterans except for lung transplantation.

While several authorities have called the disease "Popcorn Worker's Lung," a more accurate term suggested by other doctors may be more appropriate, since the disease can occur in any industry working with diacetyl: diacetyl-induced bronchiolitis obliterans.

Can't speak for the Roast Chicken flavor, but the Roast Beef flavor definitely has no saltiness to it. It's almost all aroma, very little flavor.

Yup you nailed it. I have the Roast Chicken and it's the same - it does taste like chicken, but without any salt to it, so I'm not crazy about it.

To the poster who suggested I mean savory, well, yes, but *with* seasoning. The problem with the chicken (and from what Applejackson said the roast beef as well) is it's like ordering a chicken breast in a restaurant with absolutely no seasoning on it. Which isn't very appetizing.

I do love my sweet flavors, but if they did make a *seasoned* curry flavor, chicken flavor, roast beef flavor, etc., I think I'd definitely be all over them. Would be a kind of nice alternative to snacking late at night, which I tend to do. I think the buttered popcorn flavor sounds awesome too! Maybe atomic buffalo wings. ^.^ Could open up a whole new menu for vaping.
