Hi Gang,

Just a quick post to say 'hello'. My name is Annie. I've been a smoker for 10 years and smoke roughly 2 and a half packs a day, ugh. I found a disposable e-cig at a gas station on the way to salt Lake last month and instantly loved it. I bought 2 different starter kits to see what was best...Encore and Green Smoke. I love them both, and my regular smoking is down to less than a pack a day. My main complaint is the carts don't last nearly as long as they say, lol....but when I put a new cart on the battery, wow! The vapor is sooooo much better than smoke, I love it.

I joined the forum to study up and get advice on going the refill carts or liquid route. There is so much info here! I'm hoping to have an idea of which company to try by next week so when I run out of my starter stuff I can move on to the next step....

Thanks for all of the great information you all have already posted and I look forward to 'seeing' ya'll here in the forums!

Annie :)

Welcome aboard, Annie! Knobbysmoo's right; filling's not difficult at all--it's actually made e-cigs more convenient than traditional (analog) cigarettes for me. A bottle of juice lasts me longer than a carton, and I can stow a bottle in my desk at work (with a couple of spare cartos), one in my car, and then I have the batcave-of-misfit-juice that my fridge is slowly becoming at home. No stopping at the store or running out at inconvenient times, I just top off my cartomizers after every couple of breaks. I usually carry the USB charger with me and a couple of extra batteries just in case.

As far as recommending e-cigs for beginners, I'm afraid my experience is limited to the KR808D-1 which is a two-piece model that you'd get from Smoketip, Vapor4Life, and LeCig (to name but a few). I'm impressed with those, but others seem to swear by the 510s, eGos, and Rivas. I recommend taking a look through the forums and see what people like best about their particular models and where they have had problems with them. That'll give you an idea of which one might work best for you.

Two and a half packs a day. It's going to be tough for you to go to a cigarette sized PV. You'll be charging 24/7. If you must go that route. Look at vapor4life's VAPOR KING-ULTIMATE ULTIMATUM MANUAL KIT. I'll leave it to others to tell why manual batteries.

If you're open to something a little bigger that you can go 8 hours on with one charge. Look at a Riva. Liberty Flights has the best price but, their out. Litecig has them here.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the input! I've started watching the videos and I'm already learning a lot! One thing I am sure of is I need one of the units Mistress Nomad was talking about in one of her vids....it appears to be a thing that can just vaporize off the usb port on my PC....I spend a lot of time working at the computer so if that's really the case, I wouldn't need a battery, right? Did I understand that correctly?

Thanks again for the input...

Annie

Welcome Annie!

knobbysmoo is spot on as I'm fairly new and that's a good list of getting a good grasp on the basics. I personally have a Riva 510 and love it. Cheap, easy to use, and parts are easy to find.

DoctorVapor has some great video's and is where I learned how to refill my carto's. I use his 'beer pouring' method as it's fast and clean. MistressNomad's videos are also awesome and extremely informative. I was a bit intimidated when my ecig was on the way, but within 10 minutes of opening up the box, realized how easy it really is.

Most computers can't deliver enough power to the USB port to actually power a PV. I have some eGo passthroughs. What they actually are is a battery that hooks to a USB port in a way that allows you to vape while it's charging. That would work but, if it's a true passthrough, you'll need to get a 2 amp USB plug adapter. Otherwise, you could fry a motherboard.

I still think as much as you smoke that you'll really learn to hate small batteries though.

I don't know what Encore is. Greensmoke is a rebrander selling KR808D-2 aka E9, the fave 2-piece of rebranders that charge too much. BTW for less than they charge for one replacement battery you can buy and entire 2-battery kit at AZSmokeFree.com (note - that store lists Bloog as compatible but Bloog now uses the more supported KR808D-1)

KR808D-1 manual is a better way to go. The manual KR8 batteries still have a hole in the threaded end but are not dependent on a drag sensor switch there - on autos that switch is vulnerable to juices drips which do happen sometimes when you refill cartomizers. There are adapters available for D1 battery to D2 cartos and one for vice versa at leCig.com

KR808D-1 is the supported threading for blank cartomizers of many styles as well as fat-battery models with long battery charge.

Welcome to ECF! What you are talking about (the USB thing) is called a "passthrough". Some passthroughs have a battery that holds a charge for when you are away. Others have no battery and instead draw 5v directly from the USB port. These are the kind that can fry your motherboard unless you take proper precautions. I use the 1000mah eGo passthrough. It looks just like a regular battery but has a place to connect a USB cable. It will hold a a ton of charge, and when it's plugged into a USB port you can still vape on it. I keep it plugged into my computer at work and use it to vape and then, when I leave I have a fully charged battery that will last me all night and until I return in the morning! Might do the trick for you. You can find it here: eGo Batteries Be sure to get: [a few 510 atomizers and a either cartridges or a drip tip] OR [just buy some cartomizers.] It all depends on your preference.

Happy Vaping!! :vapor:

Wow, guys....there is so much to learn! I'll put it on my list to research big batteries and pass-throughs...and definitely no more expensive Green Smoke products for me....lol...they sold me batteries for 50 bucks that I see on the vendor sites mentioned here for like 15 bucks, heh...ugh...live and learn, at least it got me on the way to vaping.

Here's a question I just thought of: does anyone make a unit that is just powered off a wall socket instead of batteries? At home I will be vaping in one place....in the kitchen at my PC. So, if there was non-battery unit I could just plug it in! Now that would be awesome! Then I could just have some battery units for the road and work....ever heard of something like that?

Thanks,

Annie :)

Annie look at the ego pass thru batteries here Electronic Cigarette - Pass-throughs - Joye eGo
Dont forget to click on 20 percent off upper left corner of page. The rivas and egos use all the same parts. I recommend them both. I like the riva. But the ego pass thru plugs into your usb and you can vape away and charge at the same time. Liberty Flights is great you wont be disappointed. Welcome to ECF

Welcome Annie, I smoked two packs a day (sometimes more) I was concerned when I started all this about Carts, and battery life. I decided to jump headfirst into a mod, (Prodigy V3.1 3.7volt version) and have been super satisfied, a battery last me all day of chain vaping, tons of vapor, all mechanical so there really isn't anything that can go wrong with it. I was concerned that if my PV stopped working I would be back smoking analogs again, I don't want to do that, so I bought lots of refillable carts, and a bunch of atomizers etc. I really think the biggest trick to leaving the Analogs behind is finding a satisfying juice, Mine I make. I didn't search for a "perfect" cigarette taste for juice, I went for sensations of smoking (mine is a fire and ice recipe I found on here) the cinnamon is hot on your tongue like a fresh drag on a smoke, then a cooling sensation in your mouth, and a throat hit from menthol. ( I smoked Winston Full Flavors for a very long time) I never thought I could replace those sensations accurately. The best part about it is that it tastes exactly like Big Red Chewing gum! PM me if you want the recipe!

So much, so much! Information overload...Lol....but I am already in love with vaping...even with my overpriced Greensmoke and Encores, lol....I smoked less than 10 analogs today which is a miracle for me and I didn't even like them compared to vaping. I ordered a starter 510 kit from Electronic Stix, it should be here soon since it shipped from Ogden, UT I believe and I'm just up the road in Idaho. I ordered a couple kinds of juice...both tobacco flavors, both strong....

My next step will be to look into big batteries and also the pass throughs.....Rick.45cal...where did you get that Prodigy? And Mickyrat, did you have a big battery mod in mind?

Thanks to all!!!

Annie
