if you don't oxides your wick enough and you allow the wick to actually sit on the bottom of the tank the metal bottom of the tank it will short out.it may also be your wick is so tight in the wick hole it's rubbing through to the atty deck and shorting out there, but melting seems kind of extreme...what kind of wire and gauge are you using
Not sure the Guage to be honest it came with my aga t3 but I have 32 Kanthal A wire on the way I'm thinking Silica will make the job easier but I still wanna tackle the Ss mesh just to learn it I like the idea of hybrid wicks. Any oxidizing tips I torched it quenched it in eliquid then light it on fire to burn it off a few times. Ran out of wire so couldn't test it after trying to reoxidize it. I know my torch was low so maybe a refuel get it red hot quench and test with the 32 Kanthal when it comes in and I'll see the results
