Hello everyone,

I'm a new member who has been following and learning from this community for a while now to the point i decided i should register to be able to interact with others.
While i'm here saying hi, i would like to seek some help regarding a few questions i have regarding a purchase i just made of a fairly new regulated box mod in the everchanging world of vaping .

So i just bought a smok Xpro M50 on ebay for $70.99, and i'm out to get a lemo to go with it (i'm not really into RDAs or extreme sub ohming).
I do own an EHPRO kayfun lite plus v2 dual air hole clone, vaping it happily on an istick, and i wanted to get a regulated mod where i'm able to replace batteries as no one is really sure how long the istick would last. After doing some research i went ahead and bought the Xpro M50 and thoguht why not get a Lemo to sub ohm, as i know kayfuns don't really handle sub ohming too good afaik.

now the questions i have:

Batteries:
- Which batteries should i get in terms of flat top or button top batteries? Will they both fit in the Xpro M50?
- After reading through the batteries threads, i am eyeing the new AW IMR 18650 3.7v 2200mAh or the Samsung INR18650-25R 2500mAh High Discharge Flat Top or the Sony US18650VTC4 2100mAh 30 amp battery (all from RTD Vapor). Now i don't really know which will satisfy my needs and it depends on whether my mod can fit flat or button tops or both. My choices might be wrong, and i might be well satisfied with less power batteries, so any suggestions in this regard are really welcomed. I just want to be on the safe side when it comes to battery longevity, vaping time, and last but most important "safety".
- The Xpro M50 like most, if not all, regulated box mods has the convinience to charge through micro usb. Being on a budget and aiming to get the lemo, can i skip buying a seperate charger and just charge the battery through the embeded charging feature in the Xpro? I plan on buying 2 batteries, using one and keeping the second for the future when the first one is depleted.

Tank:
- Do you think the lemo is a good choice to go with my setup? Any other suggestions? I know the lemo will look huge sitting on top of this tiny mod, but well :vapor:.

I'm really sorry for a long first post, and thanks in advance for any advice or suggestion.

Welcome! I know nothing about mods, but enjoyed your post ;) Seems like you have a good handle on things!

Thanks MsShona, glad you enjoyed the post. Well i'm fairly new to the vaping world, but i've tried to do my homework by reading, watching vids, and learning, and most of the knowledge i now possess comes from this forum and its helpful community.

I would say the Samsung INR 18650 25R would be the best bang for the buck with an xtar charger and yes with the lemo your going to really enjoy it........

I'm assuming you already know ohms law and how to build coils:confused:
Stay safe vape on and welcome to the forum.

Thanks Sparkky1.The Xpro M50 takes only 1 18650 battery, and to remove the battery you have to go through 4 hex screws which is a pita, unfortunately it does not come with a magnetic battery door like the cloupor mini. It also does not have passthrough, so while i'm charging i'll be ok vaping on my istick and kayfun or lemo. I was wondering if i can skip buying a charger to save a few bucks that could get me the Lemo and rely on the box mod itself for recharging the battery, would i be then mistreating the battery? Will it cause any safety issues?
I guess the Samsung at 2500mah would get me most battery life of all 3 choices i mentioned which is as you said the best bang for the buck ;). I might not be needing the high amperage as i'm using a regulated mod right?

I have been looking at the m50 as well, but still haven't seen enough reviews on it. I use the Samsung 25r's in my ipv mini and my cana dna 30 and they're great batteries IMO. Lemo is a great tank and probably my easiest to build on. I build my Lemo at 1.0-1.2, honestly prefer my Billow for the sub ohm builds (dual coil) but it is more difficult to build on. I can get decent sub ohm builds on my Kanger subtank RBA section (single coil @ 0.7) that put out great vapor / flavor. This is an easier build than the Billow dual coil I use (0.8). I do NOT like hot vapor, so these builds work great for me. They can get pretty warm if you prefer warm vapor, just up the wattage.

My advice would be to watch some rip trippers youtube videos on coil building and please use and learn steam-engine.org
Your regulated mod goes down to 0.3 ohms so as time goes on you will want higher amperage batteries.
I feel it's better to be able to see what my batteries are doing before and after a charge as to a chip that I don't know what the max constant charging current is and what the cut-off voltage is, so yes it makes a difference how long the batteries will last and perform.

Hello and welcome!!

The Samsung 18650 25r is probably the best. The vtc4 and 5 are no longer being made by sony. I stay away from them, just to be safe. I've heard a lot of good things about AW, I assume they are safe to use as well.

The usb charger on the device will probably work for the time being. It will however take longer to charge. They usually output around 400-500mAh. A Nitecore intellicharger is around 1000mAh (I think). I don't think the usb charger will/can damage your battery, it just takes a lot longer.

For your tank, I use the Lemo drop as a daily vape. At around 20-40 watts depending on your coil build, it just rocks! I got a sleeper build in it right now, at 0.7 ohm 30 watts, chucks like a rda! I might make a tutorial when I feel the need to rebuild it.

I hope this helps, vape safe!

Thanks St0rm, that was very helpful. Now we're talking about a very interesting aspect reported here on the forum about the Xpro M50 charging time and i'm quoting the following statement of one of the owners of the mod here on ecf:
"At first, I was bummed about it not being Passthrough capable however after using and charging it, I've decided it's not that big of a deal considering how fast it charges.

It will charge from 50% to 100% in about 45 minutes via computer USB and 50% to 100% in about 30 minutes when using my phone charger. It definitely charges faster than my other USB APV's."

Now another question arises, which is whether it's safe to use a mobile charger to charge the battery within the mod. I have the istick charger which is 1000mAh, and an lg nexus 5 charger which is 1200mAh, both at 5V. Is there any risk of overcharging the batteries or do all regulated mods have the adequate safety option of cutting off charging after a battery reaches 100%? Unfortunately Smoktech does not state what chip is inside the Xpro M series, so little is known to me about the chip safety features, like 10 or 15 seconds cut off, and reverse battery safety. I can live with missing features like no passthrough, but it's the other safety features i worry about.

AW have been reported to be very reliable with excellent overall battery longevity (>500 cycles), compared to a cycle life of around 300+ cycles for the samsung if i'm not wrong, but given the price of the samsungs i might be able to get 3 instead of 2 AWs and be happy.

As for the lemo, i'm not really a HOT vapor fan, so i don't think i'll be building lower than .8 - .7 ohms.

If this could be of any help on deciding which battery i should get and i think it does:
- Xpro M50 has a maximum amp rating of 13V, and the chip has a DC-DC Flat Signal. I think this means it can also be used as a mechanical mod.

I know there are 1A and above usb chargers, could be that the M50 uses one of those, if thats the case your 1000mAh wall charger should be fine.
I find it hard to believe that they would give you the option to charge your battery without safety features.

There seems to be short circuit protection, 12 seconds puff cut-off, low resistance protection and high temperature. I just pulled this of their site.

In the manual of my joyetech products it gives the max mAh at which it can charge. Have you tried mailing Smoktech? Might take a while, but then you know for certain.

I have had no experience with Smoktech, so I'm not entirely certain. I'll try and delve some deeper.

If you ever decide to buy it, i just saw it on Eciggity has them on sale now for $60, and There is "10percentoff" coupon that seems to work + free shipping. Just one day after i placed my order on ebay for $71

I'm getting kanthal and labo cotton puffs for wicking, i'm already using koh gen do in my kayfun and from what others state there isn't much difference between the labo and the koh gen do and the labo is cheaper and easier to find. Which awg should i get for the Lemo? i think 26awg will be just fine to get more contact surface, not sure if 24awg would fit the lemo builds as it might be too thick. I'm also getting 28awg for the kayfun, and 30 awg for rebuilding my own coils on my old mini protank 2.

I looked around some more, I couldn't find anything alarming. Usually when something is bad, especially after like 3 months of release, all the good, the bad and the ugly is all out. I've seen some trouble with ohm readings, 510 is not that much adjustable, but no safety issue's. I myself would use the usb to charge it, but I wouldn't charge it overnight just to be safe.

I just recently started using samsung 25r and so far I can only say they just work. They just work great in my sigelei 100w. One fresh pair lasts me about 2 days. For your M50 they should be safe to use.

The 'mechanical' mode is still limited to 13 amps and 50 watts max. It also has more voltage drop so.. Not that useful imo.

I use 30, 28, 26 and 25 awg kanthal in the Lemo, I just trap it under the screws (with a lot of patience I was able to trap 4x twisted 28awg under it)

Thanks for the help St0rm, and that's exactly my point, Smoktech is a reputable company from what i've been reading, but they are giving too little information regarding this chip and its features. No sign of reverse battery protection, no wall charger included with the mod, maybe to keep price within acceptable range, but again no clue about max mAh for charging. they do state the need for high drainage batteries, not sure if this is due to the ability to use it in dc-dc flat signal which i believe is like a mechanical mod. Too many missing information especially for reassuring box mod beginners like myself.

Already lots of great replies in the thread -- but I wanted to add you seemed to have done a great job researching this to a point where you were looking for confirmation for what you think is true and how things work, and not just asking randoms for what you should stick in your mouth. For the types of builds you're doing, that'll serve you really well so stay on that track. :)

Actually, I think everything 3A+ is high drain, the batteries we use are usually found for high current applications, like laptop battery packs. With a chip capable of putting out 13A, using a battery with less amps like the lg 6 amp 18650, would put A LOT of stress on the battery and will without a doubt cause problems.

Like I said, the usb charger will probably be fine, I seriously doubt it will dammage your battery. I do think however that this won't be your last mod and eventually upgrading to a known charger would be beneficial.
