So I ordered a pretty reddish pink lavatube the other day and I got it yesterday. Its really pretty and I wanna use but while I was waiting for it to get here I read some horror stories about the unprotected batteries they use. I bought the AW brand 18650s. I read the AW were the best so thats what I got. Then last night I found another story with pictures of one blowing up in someones pocket and burning a hole in his leg. So now I'm scared to use the thing. Does anyone know if there are protected batteries that would fit in it. I have read a ton of stuff on this site about them and being safer chemistry and whatnot but that doesnt really ease my mind. I have also read all the "take care of it, be careful with it" stuff as well and that doesn't really ease my mind either. I keep seeing this thing blowing up in my face. Im scared to put the batteries on the charger too. I think I just threw 75ish dollars in the garbage lol

li-ion batteries are in a lot of devices you probably use but weren't aware of. A cell phone uses li-ion, your laptop if you have one and a lot of things really you could have right next to your head or near your face including almost if not all ecigs.

I think the highest risk when you're charging the batteries. I think there is a slight risk if you're drawing too much current from the battery but the lavatube has a built in amp limiter to prevent this, so the discharge shouldn't be a problem.

If you charge your batteries in a safe place or even put the charger in something like a case or charging bag which you can get off ebay and never leave them charging unattended... you can safeguard yourself that way.

It's rare for li-ions to have a failure so severe they explode but it's not possible to say it will never happen to you, it's just a very possibility you can take precausions against.

I'm not trying to scare you or belittle you; if you use caution it's pretty safe to use li-ion batteries.

As far as I'm concerned, if battery blows up in my it's no big deal. LOL, JK! Almost all of our pv's use a Li-ion battery, even the pen style ecigs that look like analogs. Devices like the Lavatube have built in protection. You can use protected batteries with the Lavatube. I also know if you have a decent charger it should have overcharge protection. Don't worry, enjoy your pv.

evening. if you bought the imr red aw 18650 battery, you made a good choice. It is actually a safer chemestry battery. The protected batteries are good too, but not all of them will work in the lava tube. It's important to know the risks and give batteries respect, but please don't be overly worried. the best advice i can give you is, buy a multilmeter. don't discharge your batteries below 3.5v and don't leave them unattended on the charger overnight. I personally like to stay with the A.W brand, as I am more likely to not have to worry about buying a B grade battery that didn't pass muster in the q.c line. AW batteries are Panasonic and my opionon, is you get what you pay for. Those are just the safety precautions that make sense. the lavatube has a hole in the bottom end cap. this is a safety feature as well. as long as you don't go dropping batteries all of the time and don't be cavalier about their use, you'll be A O K:vapor:
