I've had one atomizer (Joye 510) stop working effectively. It vaped for about 3 weeks with heavy vaping and vg juices. RIP. The vapor production was close to nil, and repeated hot water rinse/dry burns did not improve the problem (Highping's method). I gave up trying to resurrect it.

I took the atomizer apart to investigate the inner workings, and learned a lot. I may even attempt to build my own atty coil :gasp: I noticed the nichrome wire worked fine when pulled out (got red hot). However, the wick was badly scorched. I'm thinking this was the issue with the atty, but would like an expert opinion on this.

jase,

The problem was not gunk on the atty. There was no gunk on the coil or any other part. The wick itself inside the atty was carbonized (black and burnt).

Btw, Highping's rinse/dry burn method is the most effective to clean an atty, according to the users on this board. It has been working well for me.

I guess I could have been more specific in the question - can you replace the wick or compensate for it without destroying the atty?
