Scratchy/Harsh Throat

Hello everybody!

Sorry for the new thread, but I didn't find the proper solution for my problem! I checked a lots of forums but I still don't know what's my problem! So 3 months ago I smoking electronic cigarette after 5 years of analog and I'm fairly happy. My device is a 1200mah VV battery and a Kanger T3S clearomizer. No problem at all, airy draw also no problem. My only problem that I have pretty much after every draw a very strong scratchy and harsh throat feeling which is make's me coughing and making unenjoyable the "smoking". I do drink enough water, my clearomizer running at 2.5ohms and my battery running at 4.4V. The voltage is absolutely fine the bigger or lower voltage settings I don't really enjoy but 4.4V is very fine for me. My e liquid is an American strawberry. I started at 24mg but it was too strong (headache...), went down to 18mg (still the same), and now 12mg which is absolutely fine (no problem). I started with 70PG/30VG, after 60PG/40VG and now 50PG/50VG what I'm using. I think my problem is a PG but I absolutely not sure about it! I don't want to give up, so if anyone has an idea please share with me! Thank you very much in advance!

sounds like your PG is still a bit hi, I dont deal well with PG even at 10 or 20 %, I get the dry raw feeling from PG. I went to 100VG and no longer suffer from the tender throat issues, I kept the nic the same level so Im ruling out the nic as being the issue. BTW I get my juice from Heathers Heavenly Vapes... very happy with their product and service.

I had a similar experience with Kanger bottom coils when I used a resistance (1.8 ohms) that was perfectly fine with top coils at the same voltage. I now use the 2.5 ohm heads at 3.7 volts. You may want to try a different delivery device to isolate whether that is the cause. I am assuming you draw a puff into your mouth first, then inhale. That is the method I use, as drawing fast, directly into your lungs like you would on a cigarette is pretty harsh. Good luck finding a tasty vape without that harshness!

A lot of local B&M's offer 100% VG juice. It is a little more expensive and sometimes requires a little advance notice but it is worth a try if you can find one locally that offers this. I am fortunate that I have three to four shops that require little travel to get to. May be harder for you.worth a try though. If not there are others that will ship. I hope you find a solution and can enjoy vaping as it should be. Take care and keep letting us know what you find.

As the guys have said previously I would do the following in this order
1. try a different juice - maybe a plain old tobacco flavour one to rule out the berry
2. try a 50/50 or 100% VG juice to rule out a reaction to the PG
3. if the previous two haven't helped... try a different carto/clearo/atty.

I did hear on another forum, and I have the same issue although no where near as bad, is that some people have a reaction to the silicon wick. I always had a funny taste and dry throat when I first started but since using rebuildables and organic cotton wick I have no problem at all. Just something to bare in mind.

Hope you find the solution soon.

I use a kanger protank 2, protank 3 and the new aerotank cooking on a 1.8 or 2.2ohm coils, voltage @ 3.7/3.8 i have noticed that using a hotter coil with a berry flavored juice, i sometimes get that sensation as well along with a burnt cough-syrup taste, the best mix for me for good flavoring is 50/50..as a few others had said already,I would try a tobacco flavored juice with no berry and see how it goes, i can recommend a nice RY4 flavor with great sweetness and taste..itc called Toasted RY4 and i buy it from www.steamjuice.us , cheap prices and great service, they also have other flavors as well, good luck and VAPE ON

Virgin Vapor has vg that's not thick so chances of dry hits are not high but flooding may arise. I've only bought their caramel creme but I'm assuming that all vg they sell are thin. I had to go vg myself. If your juice is thick a primer hit or two should help with dry hits. Vg may help you, its worth a try at least.

I've been vaping for about a month and notice in the morning the first 5-10 hits make my throat hurt a bit but then it fades. It doesn't last all day so I don't know why that's happening for you especially after so many years. I usually don't cough unless I take a big hit of my Solar Flare which is a strong cinnamon but even after a few hits I get used to that too. I am not a big help but I would try a lower VG or a different brand to see if that will help some what.

I am probably, make that definitely, weird. I experienced the same symptoms as the OP. After much trial and error, I narrowed it down to vaping the nicotine. Any nicotine and I get the harshness and cough. No nicotine, no harshness, no cough. So I presently vape a 50/50 mix of PG/VG and about 20% 50/50 flavored juice. I am using Kayfun style attys and the reduced flavor is just about right for me.

At one point I was thinking that it was the flavorings that were causing me the problems. At these reduced levels I can enjoy the flavor and vaping experience and after a couple of weeks I don't miss the nicotine.

While I myself am quite new to e-cigs, i also had this problem. It seemed to be an issue with the high nicotine level (I started at 24mgs because I had no clue what I was doing..for me it was too much). I dropped to 18 and still felt the scratching/coughing a bit but at 12mgs it is completely gone. As others said, it could be anything. But for me it was def the nic ;)
