I looked as far back as I could, but it seems most of the threads are deleted :(

Anyway, I'm old, so my memory isn't worth squat, but I seem to recall something about the switch in the end of my SD blowing out in the event of a rapid discharge/protection failure. Can anyone verify that this is true or not?

I love my SD, and with all the battery hoopla of late, it occurred to me to check in case anyone asks me. I searched the website, but couldn't find anything about it.

Anyone know for sure (or, if not the switch blowing out, is there a "vent mechanism" built in)?

Thanks

I knew the battery was "protected" for overcharge, its good to know it's good for overheating as well. Now I'm wondering if I need to drill a vent hole "just in case" ("protection" devices sometimes fail too). Hmmm, I may be at the point of diminishing returns here. *sigh* decisions, decisions....

Thanks for the reply :)

Yeah, I *could*. I just can't bring myself to do it, though. Has anyone even heard of this happening with an SD? I have had an overdischarge situation (user error) on my SD, but, as expected, the battery shut down. The atty got pretty hot, but other than the battery, no harm was done.

Its such a quality PV, I hate to go mucking around with it. My impression is that venting is within the realm of "possibility", but at this point, it seems pretty unlikely. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks, VaporPhoxxe, that's sort of what I'm thinking too. I've scrounged here, TW's forum and Trog's forum and haven't seen a single incident of it happening. Although I *have* seen a few cases of SD's getting run over by trucks, buried in pavement, even tossed out the window. But I still take mine out of the house, I guess you can't allow for every little thing that COULD happen.

I'm really just busying myself to try to keep from ordering another one for backup :)
