Hi trying to search for specific Supplier Flavour reviews and suggested mix %'s, but having probs....

i.e. in the forum "flavour reviews" , click "search forum" put in search term - but whatever search term I put in it can't find anything - even when I can see threads with that search term in!!! ... anyone any ideas?

I'm in flavour reviews ... and logged in ... top thread is "Cannot find natures flavors" ... click on search forum dropdown top right of posts in grey bar & enter "forum" ... serach .. 2 secs later comes up with "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."

Same for any search term I put in ... ?

Specifically atm I'm searching for Hangsen strawberry (want to see what % flavouring people are recommending, if any)

I hate using the main search box as the results and format it throws up are very user un friendly.

i.e. Search "strawberry Hangsen %" and get 116 results over 10 pages - been through a load but not found any useful and not got the time to go through the whole 116!
This search returns full web address of the post (unnecessary) and you cant filter by forum .. or even see at a glance which forum the posts are on .. .and its listed over 10 pages. Not very helpful.

Anyone any ideas on why the serach facility in the subforum doesnt work, or how I can get it to work (I am logged in btw when I try to serach)

Cheers, Chas

I'm not sure what the protocol is for replies up here so mods, if this is out of order, I apologize and please delete.

Out of geek curiosity, I've been playing around with your search parameters for a few minutes. Your problem is replicable. It's not you, Chas, but the forum.

For whatever reason, the Eliquid Reviews forum and all its subforums have not been flagged as searchable. No matter what parameters you put in, you'll return no results in any of those forums - as near as I can tell.

If you click on advanced search, you won't see said forums in the list of forums to search within. To the database, they simply don't exist.

One thing you can do is use google to search the site. It would give you a temporary way to search at least. Simply go to google and in the search bar type "site:e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/flavor-reviews" without the quotes and then put whatever you're wanting to search after it. For very specific results, if you were to search "hangsen strawberry", including the quotes, it will return that exact phrase only.

Actually the forums are flagged to be indexed by the search engine and they actually are indexed. It appears that at some point in the ancient history of ECF a decision was made to restrict search to senior members and above in certain areas of the forum and some of these permissions are still in effect. When I say ancient history I mean pre Angus for those of you that have been here awhile :)

I'll go in and fix this for that forum and when i actually get enough free time to search out more of these legacy permissions issues I'll correct them.

ETA: I probably will not enable search for new members until they have completed the obligatory 5 posts and they have been released to join in on the rest of the forum. After yesterdays spamming spree it is an example of why new member functions are restricted. Its not that hard to get the 5 posts in and it cuts down on overhead when the spambots can't tie up resources that are intended to serve our legitimate members.
