Seems like mech mod is the logical next step

Been vaping for 4 months after an obsessive cigar habit that had me reading forums and searching for elusive limited edition cigars that I never smoked and recently sold off to help fuel my new hobby, vaping.

started like many with an ego and moved onto a MVP2 and have shelved most of my evods and protanks and have settled in happily with a Kayfun and Trident clone.

Watched hours of Busardo and Green and can comfortably wrap a 1.5 microcoil with cotton wick and, quite honestly, am getting good results but still feel a desire to progress.

It seems like a mech mod is the next step and I am close to buying a a Nemesis clone with 18650 batteries.

i am seeing that mechs are similar to regulated mods in that 10 people will recommend 10 mods, but I am torn as far as if this is the right progression or am I rushing into mech mods before I have mastered coil wrapping?

Hmm, good point although I wasn't planning on a kick.
Biggest thing holding me back is the simplicity of grabbing my MVP with the Kayfun lite clone and having no doubt I am good for the day, which contradicts my statement about wanting to expand I guess.

I'll probably go ahead with the Nemesis clone and use it at home until I feel comfortable

I would go for it, I was on the fence too, wasn't sure if mechs were for me, but glad that I did. I bought a magneto for my first mech and its sees more use than my MVP now. I picked up a few 18350's and 18490's and 18650's with it so I could customize the length depending on what I was using as the topper. (I tend to like the 490 length the most, just feels the most comfortable length for me)

They are absolutely perfect for RDA's, and use if often with my kayfun too.

BTW, I'm only in this about 5 months, so if you feel you are ready, then you probably are ;)

I'm rocking a kayfun on a nemesis clone as I write this. Wonderful combination. If you're cool with wrapping micros in your kayfun or dripper top, you're most likely ready from a technical standpoint. Just brush up on your battery safety knowledge and vape strong.

The nemmy clone (like the original) comes with a little ring and an extension tube so you can fit a kick in it, per the above recommendation. That gives you all kinds of options - you won't need to put the nemmy aside no matter your future vaping style.

Note that use of the kick V1 will restrict you to 1.0+ ohm coils, while V2 will let you go down to <.7 ohm (perhaps lower, not sure as I don't have one).

Definitely try a clone first.
The Nemesis would be a good start.

But just to warn you, if you collected rare cigars, which you never smoked, you will want the real thing very soon as the quality of the clones is hit or miss and will always be quite a few steps behind the real thing.

Get a few of the 18500/18490 batteries - make the mod much lighter and more pocketable with a fairly long lasting battery.

If you can wrap a 1.5 micro-coil, you are fine to progress onto mechs, but do read up on battery safety -
before you learn to determine the state of charge of the battery in your mech mod by the temperature of your vape, you would need something to measure the charge of your battery - a charger with an LCD (Efest Luc), a multimeter, or something like the Tankometer: The Tankometer | Voltage Tester for eCigs

And do not under any circumstances buy any battery with the word "fire" in its name - also all batts for mech mods have to be IMR - unprotected batteries - you are best off with AW, Efest, Panasonic, or Sony batteries of this type.

Good luck and keep vaping :) :vapor:

I would 100% recommend it. I was a bit hesitant as well but all I vape now is mech mods. If you're fine with taking out an atty with a coil you built yourself out for the day without letting you down you should have no issues bringing a mech mod with you for the day. I'd trust a mech over a regulated mod for durability any day.

It's pretty inexpensive to try the clone and see how you like it. I have the Nemesis and Trident clones from FT and I am loving the combination. I also have the Rocket (Kayfun clone) and am enjoying that too. And if you end up not liking it you can always sell hardware in the classifieds here.

Just make sure you know about the battery safety issues when using mechanical PVs. They have no safety features built into them, it's all up to you.

Have fun :thumb:

Mechanical mods will always be my favorite due to the fact that I'm not using technology. I love the simplicity of mechanical mods and where the firing button is located, and how it fires (but that's just me). Get some sony 30 amps and Aw 490's and you will be set with your "journey" into vaping. There are plenty of inexpensive mechs out there, I'd suggest looking at 101vape for some great USA vendor prices. The M16 sentinel clone seems to be my personal favorite for quite some time. Telescopic mods with floating pins are fantastic and convenient.

Wound up picking up a KTS after seeing how well it matched up with the Kayfun Lite CloneView attachment 293412

Good for you rastapete and hope it works out for you. I've had one of these since March last year and it's served me well. Every once in a while one of those has an issue with the switch getting hot when you fire it. If that does happen to you, stop using it and Google it. It's easy to clean the switch and then it's OK again.

Do you have a local vape shop? If you do and they carry mechs, go and get your hands on one before you buy online. Make sure it feels right to you, I picked up an hcigar nemesis clone the other day from my vape shop and at a pretty decent price..about 7bucks more than online (which is great for a brick and mortar).

Mechs are a great way to start, just know that some don't have protection in them so be careful with what you use. Not trying to scare you, just being real. If you are starting to cloud chase and are wanting to go sub ohm or anything, read up some sub ohm safety and whatnot. But at yoru current setup at 1.5ohms you will be completely fine and safe with whatever you choose. Watchout for some really poorly made china clones online. Read reviews and try to watch some youtube videos and see the mod itself.

for 12 bucks with the coupon NEWYEAR it is a GREAT!!!! price for a decent starter mech. Free shipping too. I'm really on the fence about ordering one because I just spent some money the other day but I am not sure if I can pass this deal up, they have a good bit left in stock but the sale only goes until the 17th so you have a little bit to decide if you want it or not.

Mechs are a great next step, they look awesome they don't have resistance restrictions and they are simple..not wiring to worry about and last forever if taken care of. Invest in some nolox(sp?) for the ones with squeaky/crunchy threading. You won't regret it!
