Excellent! Let me be the first to welcome you to the club ;-) So.... let's get started.

The first thing you need to learn is to rebuild attys. This is a pre-requisite for mechs.

    Disagree!!!!!!!!!!
I began using mechanical mods LONG before RBAs even existed.
In fact mechanical mods existed long before regulated mods existed.
AND, we got along with them just fine back then.
The only reason I use RBAs now is because they stopped making my favorite atomizer.

Please yourself, of course. However, using pre-made coils seriously limits the performance as you are limited to the resistance options offered by the manufacturer. It will work, of course. But it won't be adjustable except by screwing in a different coil.

Does anyone have experience with the new sub ohm cell batteries?

Every one I've seen is mislabeled with the "pulse" rate not the CDR. A 30A battery is the highest CDR battery available. Any battery labeled with 35A, 38A, 40A, etc. is labeled with the "pulse".

@Baditude (another battery guru) has a blog post on the purple Efest battery (labeled 35A)

Purple Efest Batteries not as Advertised
    * A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

He also has many other great blogs covering a multitude of topics from beginner to advanced.

I would still say that batts are equally important to regulated mods. Use an inferior batt in a regulated mod and things can still go terribly wrong.
    Very true!:)

Anyone can put a fancy wrapper on a battery and call it their own "new latest & greatest". The "Sub ohm Cell" is just the last in a long list of re-wrapped batteries.
The reality is that there are only so many plants in the world that actually produce batteries, and no one is going to build a new $10,000,000.00 plant just to produce "Sub ohm Cells" !

i've been using mechs for years, and i just "upgraded" to a regulated device. i use a 0.4 ohm dripper and a 0.9 ohm kfl, used to be i couldn't fire these on anything but a mech. nowadays with all of the high power mods coming out, i don't see any reason to use my mechs anymore. new apv's can throw out more power than i'd even consider using, all while monitoring my battery and build to ensure their safety.

that being said, my top mechs:

    1. poldiac - just a fantastically built device, higher quality machining than anything else i've seen
    2. reo - the original rda tank mod (although that description definitely does it a disservice)
    3. sentinel m16 - my favorite mod from the philippine mech invasion
    4. k100 - just a good, cheap, original china mod, always liked it
    5. nemesis - i suppose i have to mention it for the list to be complete
