I've been following ecig news for the past few months and it seems like there have been quite a few stories published in the past few days. More than I've come to expect in a short period of time.

As we lead up to October when the FDA (again) is supposed to release a notice of proposed ecig regulations, I suspect more & more negative publications will be released to the masses. I can't help but feel this is orchestrated by those wanting to paint a negative perception of ecigs and sway public opinion & attention away from the benefits of ecigs.

I'm ready for the fight.

I absolutely agree, ennagizer. The timing of CDC's release today didn't surprise me at all. Smacks of a well-thought-out and -timed media campaign.* ANTZ and government, creating a media frenzy to stir up the great unwashed masses, who know about ecigs only what they see on the evening news. Contemptible, coming from those who are supposed to protect our public health...

*Reminds me of the MHRA's "regulation by press release" in the UK.

In a perverted kinda sorta way ...
I hope the FDA doesn't delay their proposed "demon" regulations again.
Frustrating waiting forever for the other shoe to drop.

Yeah, I know ...
The longer they wait the larger our numbers.

I'm sure when the FDA figures out how to regulate without getting their ... sued off again ...
They will be biting at the bit to make their announcement.

Yes, and I have a perfect example of this. A few days ago an acquaintance saw me with my ecig for the first time and brought up the negative stories he either read or heard on the news. He's a smoker, by the way. He brought up the antifreeze thing, the "don't know what's in them" thing and a recent report in my area that law enforcement is concerned about ecigs being used for "other" purposes & age limits.

That conversation made me realize - that's what he "knows" because that's what's making headlines. To find the truth requires effort that he's not going to do. He will eat whatever is fed to him by the media. Then, when he talks to someone who read or heard the same thing it only strengthens their beliefs "That's what you heard? Yeah, I heard that too.". Hey, if it's on the evening news, the radio or the newspaper it must be true, right?

The fact that this device has improved my quality of life means nothing to the media. It's not sensational.

I know what you mean! The waiting is killing me. On the other hand, if they delay too much longer, I'm going to have to buy a second freezer for all the nic base,

Sadly most of the public is too busy or too lazy to research facts for themselves about most subjects, so they let the media do it for them. The negative publicity that has been given to ecigs in the last couple of days has been annoying to say the least, especially to those of us who know the facts, but the intent is to convince the general public that ecigs are worse for us, or at least just as bad as smoking. One report I said that ecigs are a "gateway" or starting point for many teens that will lead to cigarettes, and they are still spouting about that old flawed, junk science study that has been dis-proven, the one that says ecigs contain anti-freeze. ignorance and intentional disinformation unfortunately will likely lead to the eventual regulation of nicotine in the U.S.

9/6/13 Fox and Friends at about 8:40 EDT. One line report. "CDC reports E-Cigarette use has doubled among teens". Thats the full report. If I had not been a smoker for 45 years I would assume that e-cigs were just like regular cigarettes. Don't expect anyone to do the "research" to educate themselves. Even if they tried pretty much all they would find is stories about antifreeze, arsenic, and the like. If I were an "online vendor" of juices and didn't think I could make it on hardware sales then I would begin my "exit planning". B&M establishments will probably survive but like cigarettes, the taxes on a bottle of juice will exceed the cost of the juice.

The only good thing is that every time the subject hits a courtroom we win. The powers that be know this. In the EU they know that if they make e cigs medical their own court will find against them. You need to look at the longer term game when they then make it a tobacco product and can ban it everywhere and of course tax the life out of us.

We don't want a fight. We don't need one. We have an unanswerable argument.

If government believed in the health of their own people tobacco would be illegal and not a cash cow.

I struck me as interesting when I read that Britain postponed their decision on ecigs until October which is the same timeline as when the FDA is going to make their deeming decision.

Now that is interesting ...

Check the Euro forum on this, the ANTZ MEPs were trying to push their vote through this last week and got shot down due to lack of time for comment and study. They even tried to get the votes to push it through on an emergency basis. I think they were trying to pass theirs to influence the US FDA.

:glare::rolleyes:
