I had been an analog smoker for 32 years and was up to two packs a day. My GF was had started smoking about a year ago. She decided she wanted to try vaping and we got her the Kangertech Subox Mini. I broke down and bought the Eleaf iStick TC60W for myself. We are still experimenting with juice at this stage, but we both lean towards less throat hit and more cloud. In the process of learning the best way to create new coils for ourselves; essentially looking for a material to build with that stands up to VG since it seems to be somewhat "sticky?" when it comes to coils. Seemingly impossible to find the VG/PG ratio in "commercial" blends. Taste is more her thing, I am totally about the cloud. Currently hitting 6mg of nicotine and getting a head rush..so I will probably drop down to a lower nicotine. She is content with 6mg.

I look forward to getting to know y'all, as much as one can get to know people on the interwebs.

Cheers!

I hope you are using kanthal wire to begin with instead of some unknown wire from a hobby shop or hardware store.

I am still looking into what type of wire will work best with a higher percentage of VG. I have determined that I like an 80/20 mix. I have read that higher percentages of VG tend to gum up the coils. So..still researching.

There is really no issue with gunking up the coil on an RBA or RBT. About once a week, remove your old wick, burn off the coils and replace the wick. If you like changing flavors periodically and you are really picky, you can do this proceadure each time you change the flavors. I think it is about 10 min to do so 5 with a lot of practice. The reason that I suggest wire that is made for vaping is that I am afraid that you might introduce toxins from using an unknown wire. It is about safety in the long term.

Hello and welcome! I personally like clouds and love flavor. Don't care for temp control mods so I stick with Kanthal builds. I just about always use 30/70 or 20/80, as I like more VG than PG. Throat hit comes mostly from my flavors and the 6mg nic. I spent a long time finding a combo that works well enough.
I normally use 28g around 5-6 wraps at 2.5 ID. Great for clouding. They do gunk up, but a dry burn after 4-5 days fixes it right up. I prefer the faster ramp up times I typically stick with 28-30g.

Today I rebuilt my Aromamizer *again*. Did a single coil vertical build with 22g 9wraps 2.5 ID tight coil with no space. I use tiny Cotton plugs to close the second side of the deck.
Not a "warm" build, but man oh man can she chuck clouds on 3-4 second pulls. And the flavor is great, just not very warm. (30watts @ 0.4Ω)
My builds with 28g 5 wraps 2.5 ID at around 1.0Ω heat up much faster and 3-4 second pulls at 30watts are warm and they chuck and they taste great. :)

Just a few examples for you to take something from. Hope it helps to generate a field for you to work from.

Hi and welcome. High VG can gum up a coil, but it's not that hard to fix. Disassemble the tank, trash the wick, dry burn the coil (Kanthal wire only!) to get the gunk off, re-wick and you should be good to go. I usually don't re-wick until the old one gets nappy, but I know people who re-wick every day for maximum flavor. Even so, I can usually get a month or more out of a coil.
