well cleaning it up with vodka (grain alcohol) or rubbing alcohol and q-tips is really easy. just dip the q-tip in the alcohol and push the cotton tip into the threads well twisting the mod to work the q-tip into the threads will remove most of the gunk..
but if you damaged the threads some how you, will need to get a "tap or Die" Taps are for male threads Dies are for female threads and
and a handle to cut new threads or fix the old threads.

if you need someone to run a tap or die over the threads call auto shops or automotive machine shops. it would take about 5 minutes. and i bet they will charge you less than the cost of tools.
