So I'm guessing you bought a box mod from fasttech, something like this?

$52.44 SX300 G-Sensor Variable Wattage APV Box Mod - 7-50W / 1*18650 / grey at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

They're made by a company called hotcig and the chip is not a genuine sx300 chip, but a cheaper knockoff/clone of the real deal. Some of hotcig's units have been ok, but far too many have problems including what you're describing, misreading resistances, failing to even power up at all and even catching fire. Hell, they had these problems with their 30w devices let alone at 50w.

So were I you, I would return the unit immediately.

Either of these is going to be an infinitely better 50w box for you at roughly the same size, featuring the genuine sx330 board that will kick some serious .... and not crap out on you or burn your house down:

iPV Mini v2 70 Watt Mod - Eciggity
Sigelei 50W v2 Box Mod - Eciggity

If you shop around a bit, both can be had in the $60-$75 range.
