Series Parallel Box Mod... Help Needed

Hi, First post here but I am in need of help. I am going to be working on a box mod of my own, but instead of the standard series or parallel wiring i am going to do a series parallel setup. I will be using six 18650 batteries, three sets of parallel batteries wired in series. Its kinda hard to explain so im going to try and post a pic with it. But if done correctly i should be able to do; 8.4 volts fully charged ( 7 volts need recharge ), 3x MaH rating of single battery, 3x continuous amp limit? My questions are... is this safe to do? will there be shorting out of batteries? Is my pictured layout wired correctly? Are the series - Parallel statistics correct?

Hello and welcome to the forum rdpinventor. Glad to have you here!:)

Try browsing around the Modding Forum. Read all the "stickies". You will not be able to post over there until you get in your first 5 posts (not 5 threads) and the server updates at :25 past the hour.

What are you using to vape with?

Well, with no response of my questions I am going ahead and moving forward with my build. The first thing I am working on was to get all the Battery Sleds to fit in the box and all the battery contacts ready for soldering. I am using Keystone 1049 18650 Battery sleds, Hammond die cast aluminum enclosure 1590WP1 ( 6.01" long, 3.24" wide, 1.81" thick ). I am probably going to put some type of insulation on the inside of the box to prevent the sled contacts from shorting/arching.

You'll be hitting your coils REALLY hard. Unless you put in a variable control of some kind you're gonna be toasting juice & coils in a big hurry. I discovered this in a unregulated Mod using 2 26650 batteries and you're going past that. I think the new DNA 40 control would be a really great addition for you. It'll regulate up to 150 watts. Give you control & fantastic battery life.

Got it. Not saying it's not a good idea. In fact, I can't wait to see the finished product. Just a couple of things to consider, beyond the status-quo (not to mention exponential) safety issues...

To keep the thing running without charging down time, you're gonna need a minimum of 1 4 bay and 1 two bay charger, plus 12 (matched) batts. Large investment there.

Re the photos, it's a brick. I mean literally the size of a brick. Practically speaking, it's not going to be very...practical. That's fine, just saying.

Following with interest. :)

Just and update at where I'm at... Stated to wiring everything up with some bare 12 gauge solid copper wiring, it is a pain in the ... to get it all set right. The switch i am using is a i think motorcycle ignition switch which is rated at 60 amps @ 12v & 40 amps @ 24v, i know alot of people complain about underrated switch use so i decided to do it right.

Got everything Wired up and in Place. Put clear plastic all around the inside of the box where the copper wires could of possible made contact with. Hollowed out some brass bolts to allow direct soldering to the switch. Used a Fat Daddy 510 (v4), when i first soldered the positive wire directly onto the positive pin i melted the insulator but lucking i got an extra so that fixed it fine. Got a better all copper wire terminal for the negative to hook onto. Looks a little messy but still waiting to get batteries to try it out.

Well, never got box mod put into full action. Got all six of my batteries charged and was amped to get em all in... the last sled i put both positive pins up by accident. Didnt realize it for a second till the batteries got very hot, freaked out and pulled them out as fast as i could. Killed at least two batteries. Overall the idea was dangerous (extremely) tried to use it recently but i must of de-soldered something cause it doesn't even fire with one sled wired up. First box mod ive ever attempted to do but definitely learn from it. Sorry for not responding to thread ina while... tend to not get attached to online sharing sites.
