So I just received my taifun. Wanted to set it up with my pap x. Looks great. But im a total dumbdumb when it comes to setting up coils. Ive watched all the vids on youtube (vids in English) and not many show them actually wrapping the coil, but im essentially doing the same thing. 3 strands of 2mm wick, 3 wraps of coil (no clue what gauge, its thick as heck though). BUT when I fire it i get red coils very quickly. Put juice on the wicks and it burns. I can smell it. Even tried filling the tank and putting everything back together, thats when I tasted the burn. It hurt. Thank God I didnt inhale. What is this noob doing wrong. I have literally done this 7 times now and same result every time.

Note: I did even the coils out and they fire evenly, the whole thing is a hotspot!!

Thanks!

If you're going to be delving into making coils, you need to have an understanding of Ohm's Law.. Proper, safe batteries to use.. the wire gauges / ohms per inch.. etc. I would also invest in a resistance checker or multimeter. It's good to know where your ohms are BEFORE firing the coil, and check for shorts BEFORE something happens. ;)

I have a sticky on sub-ohm vaping which covers most of this: (Doesn't matter if you sub-ohm or not)

STOP! Don't go any further. If you don't know the resistance of the coil you've built, or have no way to check it, you don't need to be trying to set up a rebuildable. If your wire is "thick as heck", I suspect you're using pretty low resistance wire. Do a little reading about ohms law and battery safety. Buy a digital multi meter, or at least an ohm reader box. Learn about various wire gauges.
I'm not trying to be mean. But I'm trying to help you avoid injury to yourself, or damage to your equipment.

Ok. Lets say I buy the checker and eveything is unsafe... what am I doing wrong?

The point is to learn, and have a grasp of what you're doing before proceeding... Then, there will not be much wrong... There are no shortcuts to knowledge and safety.. It's taken me 3+ years to get where I am now..

Don't know yet. We don't have enough information. It sounds like you have built a very low resistance coil. We need to know the wire gauge you're using, and most importantly, the size and type of battery you have. All batteries have a safe discharge rating, in amps. If you exceed it, you're in danger of battery failure, which can harm you or damage your equipment.

just by your description of the wire, i think you are doing several things. you need to give the coil space above the airflow in the GT, also your wraps should be fairly snug around your wire, you also have to allow for proper flow of juice on/into the coil, so you have to ensure the wick is not too large to block the flow into the device from the tank. i have the GT actually vaping as i type, it is better to over wick this atty than underwick. it is really good, you are focusing on the coil, me thinks you need to look at the air/wick

Thanks for the re assurance, convert.
I was checking out the Taifun Gt at my local B&M, and just haven't pulled the trigger yet.
I may grab one today

good luck, you'll love it!! if the draw is tight you can either buy larger air tubes, or just do what i did, take out the 1 mm tube and leave it open, your wick will stop the GT from leaking, i had mine open now for 2-3 months with 0 problems. with the right wick and coil it is a better vape than the kayfun and similar atty's. its like a steamy-fluffy-warm vape, niceeeee
