Hi all,

I've been vaping for about two years now and I've had various batteries and tanks in that time.
I started off with the eRoll, then got myself the eCom. After burning through atomizers too quickly and their steap pricing, I bought a Kanger Protank mini and later a Kanger Aerotank mini before finalluy buying a Kanger Protank 3. In terms of batteries I've owned a Kanger VV and Kanger IPOW 2. The latter died on me about a month ago and I had to buy a new one.
After looking around the web I decided to go with the Aspire CF SubOhm battery. This device arrived today, along with the 0.8 ohm Kanger Dual Coils for my Protank 3.
After letting the fluid set for about 10 mins, it was finally time for my first hit. The first hit was good, but when I fired it up again there was the oh so terrible dry hit. After a few goes I decided to see if the atomizer was defective and replaced it with a new one. I let the juice settle for a full hour this time and gave it another go.
I keep getting nice first hits, then sometimes the second and third will be okay. The following hits will taste burnt a lot. If I fire up for longer than 2 seconds, I will get burnt taste right away. So no direct inhales for me on this setup. Something that would work for me on my old setup with the IPOW 2 and Protank, with 1.2 and 1.5 ohm Kanger Dual Coils.
Could anyone please explain to me why I'm having these experiences. I'd rather not start building my own coils atm. I've been looking at other tanks to go with this pen style mod, but can't really make a lot out of it.
I'm just looking to vape with thick clouds and good taste. I'm thinking that maybe the Sub Ohm Kanger Dual Coils are unable to get enough juice flowing for longer hits and chain vaping..

Looking forward to some helpfull replies. Thanks in advance!
Edit: I am using Colinss 60%VG-40%PG liquid.

Havn't used a protank in quite a while but 60vg may be too thick to wick properly, try a 50/50 or even 70pg/30vg.
Thanks for your quick reply!
Is this because I'm using subohm coils now? Because I've used 70PG/30VG for my previous setups a lot and found that they produce so little vapor that I'd burn coils quickly. They were also harsh on my respiratory system. When I was using the IPOW with 1.2 and 1.5 ohm coils with Colinss liquid, I'd be able to vape for 10 days without issues while chain vaping most of the time.

All cotton coils have to be primed well with juice. If they are not primed well the cotton will burn. Once the cotton is burned the burned taste doesn't go away.

To prime the coil, drop 5-8 drops of juice right inside the coil (sometimes less/more depending on the size of the coil head), another drop of juice in all the holes on the side of the coil. Put the coil in the base.
  • If Bottom Filling - Fill the tank and then screw the base back onto the tank.
  • If Top Filling (some tanks are top filled) - Screw the tank on the base and then top fill it.
Once you put the tank on the battery give it several unpowered primer puffs. This will make sure the wick is fully saturated.

Well, I found my solition. Went out and got myself an Atlantis tank.
Have been vaping happily for about a month now. The Protank's sub-ohm coils can't quite handle the CF Sub-Ohm battery, which I suspect is an issue regarding the amount of cotton used in them. The aftermarket OCCs for the Atlantis do work great on this setup.
