this is worth a read imo: Vaping crackdown leaves deadlier cigarettes untouched

the reporter calls into question the logic of banning vaping products after recent illnesses and deaths while cigarettes remain on shelves.

here's the reporter's point:

1. there have been less than 10 deaths that may be linked to vaping, according to the cdc.
2. cigarettes kill around half a million people a year in the usa, according to the cdc.

so we ban vaping products but you can still buy cigarettes? uhm.... okay?

from the report:

“Every death is tragic, but when we look at deaths from e-cigarettes compared to tobacco, tobacco is absolutely getting a pass. And it shouldn’t,” said Tim Hubbard, an assistant professor of management at University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business who studies executive leadership and follows the e-cigarette industry.

There are too many smokers for a ban on cigarettes to be politically feasible, and then there's also the economics of it; the lost tax revenues MSA payments.
