First of all, I'm choosing not to post this in the supplier negative reviews forum because my issue has already been resolved, more or less. Further, I do not wish to call out this vendor by name at this time because the employees are very nice and extremely helpful. I am simply posting to see if anyone has shared an experience like mine or is aware of similar things happening with other vendors...

My wife and I started vaping about a month and a half ago (100% smoke free since!) starting out with cig-a-like kits with pre-filled cartos. Shortly after that I found ECF and learned a lot more about vaping. The pre-filled cartos were really expensive but thanks to ECF I learned that they could be refilled a few times. So a little google search later we found a local brick and mortar that specializes in vapor supplies. Was really nice to be able to test out the juices before buying and check out all the cool toys they had. We bought a couple flavors and left satisfied customers.

A couple weeks later we finally decided to upgrade from the little cig-a-like batteries to an ego style. So we head back to our local store and pick out a couple shiny new 900(?)mah batteries. They were a bit more expensive than what is available from many online retailers but I like to support local businesses when I can. We were informed by the employee helping us that our existing 510 chargers should work but may take a long time to fully charge, consistent with what I'd read here. We go about our day, vaping on our new toys quite happily. However, that night when we attempted to charge the problem began. Neither battery would charge. Ok, maybe the 510 chargers don't put out enough power, let's buy a couple ego chargers. New chargers, still, neither battery will take a charge. At this point we were pretty frustrated and decided it was time to bring the batts back to the store, hoping for a refund at best or at least an exchange.

So my wife takes the batts back to the store and is informed that they will not be able to do a refund but only an exchange. No big surprise there. The person helping my wife checks both batteries and confirms they are both bad. What are the odds right? But these things happen, no biggie. Until the employee mentions that at least one of these has been "fixed" by the owner and put up for sale. This by itself isn't such a big deal except for the fact that this refurbished battery was being sold as new at a premium price. And get this! While my wife was being helped, another customer came into the store complaining that her brand new battery wouldn't charge! Obviously our confidence in this vendor has now bottomed out and we grudgingly accept our exchange. I have little faith these replacements will last very long and very much doubt we will be doing business there in the future. For all I know this is how the owner makes his money, buying garbage batteries, "fixing" them and reselling at a premium. Caveat Emptor.

So what do you think ECF? Is this just an isolated incident? Or does this sort of thing happen a lot? Look forward to your responses! :vapor:

This is not just wrong, it's ridiculous. You can buy 900mah egos from fasttech $5.84 shipping included. If you buy multi packs the price quickly drops, so you figure the store owner was spending less then $4 a piece for those egos. To bother to take the time to try to repair them for re-sell as new hits me as not making any sense from an economic standpoint, besides losing his customers good will.

(snip)

Just out of curiosity, what brand of battery were these? (I suspect a clone)

Yeah, they were clones, mine was labeled "ZVaporz" and my wife's was a designer type with an embossed pattern. I had a pretty good idea of what I was buying but again, I like to support local business when I can. Fortunately there is another shop not too much further away that we will be checking out soon. They seem to have a good local and online reputation.

100% agreed selling refurbished as new is deceptive. It dose not instill trust in a customer hu ! what other short cuts and corners are they taking?
Maybe a % less of nic in the juice no one will notice! I would not go back there and I would out them at every opportunity. Scratch a liar find a thief!

I also paid premium price @ my B&M. I wasn't aware of all the clones for the Joyetech twist. I wanted it then and like to support local places when I can. After going to some of the places around me they are all clones @ Joyetech retail prices. It is a rip off, they didn't claim it was a Joyetech but I assumed cause I didn't find this site in time.

I would use a local vendor if they made nice juice, for hardware that is mass produced I would go where the price is cheapest. You will get good advice here for suggestions as too what device will suit your needs, but a local vendor isn't really adding any value to a Chinese made ego apart from saving you waiting a few days for shipping.

My feelings exactly! As for outting them, well... Buzzzlove, I see you're also in TX, if you or anyone else reading this ever happen to be in Houston, AVOID Create-E-Cig located on Westheimer.

Though I have not had this experience here some advice. Start asking questions, inspect the merchandise thoroughly. If the owner is making any kind of adjustments, modifications or repair and is reselling them then he is not only hurting himself cause that clearly screws with HIS warranty from the manufacturer but by law he has to mark them REFURBISHED to resell them.

Advice: shop on line.

Rigging up a used battery is pretty shady. I've had a couple issues with stuff from local shops. These shops are smoke shops, and didn't really know about e cigs. One sold me an off brand piece of junk. I warned the store management, that they were selling a bad product. That the "company" selling this product wouldn't even tell me what was in the e liquid. Only that it was good lol. They quit carrying that stuff.

I haven't ventured out to find a local shop yet as I am a bit afraid, but I planned on doing it soon. I'll definitely be avoiding that one, though.

Hey iDiannasaur! I know Conroe is kind of far but there is another shop located on I-10 and Grand Pkwy, towards Katy, that looks promising. I can't recall the name right now .

EDIT:buzzzlove got it! Electronic Cigarettes of Houston. Looks like they've moved up, they have an actual retail location in a newly constructed strip mall now. I will now definitely be checking them out based on your recommendation. Thanks!

I'll keep that in mind when I begin my adventure. I was going to go today, but I can't seem to motivate myself to get dressed so maybe I'll save it for next week.
If you happen to find something really awesome in the Houston area that you'd give a rave review, I would definitely like to hear about it.

Ty Houston and Dallas are the closest for me to find B&Ms so ty for posting this. This place will be avoided at all costs when I visit family in Houston.
