Hey guys. I stopped smoking cigs about a week ago. I smoked a pack a day so I went with a 24mg Nic juice to try and kick the habit. It's rough but still haven't smoked in a week. My question is, my hands have been shaky and I feel kinda weak. Could my nicotine level be too strong. If so what do I step down to?

I quit two weeks ago, and was shaking for the first week. I felt like I was overheating, trembling and got headaches. It should go away soon.

Awesome. Thanks so much for the advice. I am definitely staying hydrated. Not the problem. I think it may be too much nicotine. Today I was without my e cig for about five hours and was completely steady. Half an hour into puffing my e cig I was shaking. I have a really awesome brick and mortar store so I'm gonna grab an 18 or 20 mg bottle tomorrow. Hopefully it's enough to satisfy the cravings without making me shake.

Because the delivery of Nic via vaping is slower to enter the blood stream compared to smoking A LOT of us over do it at first.

Also I was a 35 to 45 roll your own, non filtered a day, and I started at 18mg and that was ok. I think the 24mg might be a bit too much for you. You might consider buying the same flavors in 12mg and mixing it down to 18mg 50/50.

Also important to note, is that the way you inhale is a little different, and that effects your absorbtion, read this.. it is damn helpful

I agree with the other posters with you over doing it on the nicotine. I was a 2+ pack a day smoker and did fine on 18 mg as well. I was also smoking and vaping at the same time, and gradually came off of smoking over a 2 month period. I even started out mixing 24mg of WTA e liquids in with my 18mg when my cravings were high but I QUICKLY discovered that it was just too much for me, especially with the amount I was constantly vaping! I know for me early on, and still on occasion, I prefer the ACT of vaping as well as the nic satisfaction. I don't think I could have quit all together if I wouldn't have been able to have had my e-cig in my hand and vape it as much as I wanted, when I wanted. Then after I discovered some FANTASTIC flavors that I REALLY enjoyed vaping, I decided to subsequently order those flavors in 12mg so I could vape them as much as I wanted to.

I think the answer for you is there, as you discovered and that if we just slow down, listen to our bodies, we KNOW when we're over doing it, or when something isn't right, IMHO. I'm glad you figured it out and were able to correct it, and congrats on being able to stop smoking!

My wife was out of town when she decided to switch to vaping. She smoked lights, about PAD, sometimes a little less. The B&M she went to gave her 3%! It is no wonder she wasn't impressed and went back to cigs. She gets home tonight, so we will be heading to a local B&M (where the owner is smarter and ready wants to help you quit) Monday morning to pick up some new juice. Meanwhile, she will be switching to some of my stuff!!

3% is actually 30mg. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Not only do you have to consider the amount of cigs you smoke per day, but also the nic level of the brand you smoke. You could be smoking ultra lights like a train and 24 mg nic vapes will knock you out. Go online to the cigarette brand you were smoking or look at an old pack to find the nic mg. If you want to vape the same amount of time as you were smoking, get a e liquid at a similar range.
As your vape gear gets better (mod and topper) you may find your nic mg will hit you a bit harder and need to reduce it.

I was a Camel NF and Drum RYO smoker, 30+ years. I quit smoking the day I started vaping. I used 24mg nic cig-a-like. I moved on to an basic eGo with a clearo at 24mg and found 18 mg was more "chill" on my body after a few weeks. Through my own learning curve of mods and toppers, I'm at 11mg nic, not because I wanted to reduce my nic intake, but because my vape gear became more efficient, better mods, better toppers, and building my own coils.

Just my :2c:

The shaking may be your body coming off the cigs - there's an article on ECF that lists all the things that happen when detoxing from cigarettes. Turns out it's all the other chemicals in them that your body was used to.

Or, as you guessed, it could be the nicotine, and you're just getting too much. Simplest remedy for new vapers - buy a bottle of 24, a bottle of 18, a bottle of 12 and a bottle of 6. It's cheaper than a carton of smokes, so just do it.

Now test it out - try pure 24 and see how your body reacts.
1) Does it take away your cig craving completely? If yes, it's high enough.
2) Does it make you light-headed, give you headaches or trouble sleeping? If yes, it's too high.

Move to 18. Repeat the testing.

Keep going till you find what works. You can always save the higher nic juices for those moments when you are really in need of a strong jolt of nicotine. One or two puffs of really strong nic can get you over the edge during a bad craving - just be sure to go back to the lower nic juices afterward and use those for your regular or chain vaping episodes.

Also as someone mentioned, you can mix stronger with weaker once you find your perfect strength (so as not to have wasted juice). For example, I mix 6 mg with zero mg to get 3 mg. There are lots of juice mixing calculators online if you need one - just Google.

Best of luck and keep on vaping!

I get this oddly from chain vaping 12mg nic. 18 mg nic I feel satisfied and don't chain vape.

Awesome, good for you. If its of any consolation I was a pack a day smoker for 30 years, I was recommended 18mg, way too strong for me. Ended up starting at 12mg, and am now down to 7.5mg. It gets easier and I now find cigarettes to small disgusting (never thought I'd say that). Just find your sweet spot and go with it, when you feel confident, drop a level. Its worked for me for 4 months. If I can do it, anyone can.

Those MAOI's are a antidepressants. Very tricky, a lot of dietary restrictions for people who take them, and not much used. Waves of depression are often best dealt with by vaping. If it is more prevalent, some people take St. John's Wort, over the counter for a short period of time. Otherwise, maybe you need to visit with a doctor. However, he might recommend that you vape 0mg.

Remember that shakiness is associated with low blood sugar-- that is leveled out with exercise, avoiding simple sugars, and lots of fiber in your diet. My physical activity level is much higher now, especially with improved respiratory health. It is a big change, and you need to tune yourself in to what your body needs. Smoking covers up a lot of problems.

Nicotine and Blood Sugar a Dangerous Combo Yep. Might be good to see a doctor, once your body gets used to very low or no nicotine. Sometimes vaping diabetics use 0mg with the patch, as it is a more stable way of weaning off the nicotine. It is fluctuations in blood sugar that cause symptoms.

Yeah, especially around the 3-wk point after quitting; that must be the half-life of MAOIs or something, because although I was absolutely euphoric about quitting for the first couple weeks, right around the 21-24 day mark, I became quite depressed, sorry for myself; I'm not a stranger to any of those kinds of feelings, but I had been feeling so great because of finally quitting, then BAM right out of the blue, feeling so down, mad and sad and just let me stay in bed kinda feelings. But it didn't last very long; a couple days after I noticed it, I got some new vapemail, and that really cheered me up, and next thing you know, I'm back to awed and amazed and delighted that I'VE FINALLY QUIT SMOKING!!

Glad to hear the lower-nic is helping some with the shakes; I didn't notice them particularly except when I tried 18mg and 12mg; once I got down to 6mg, no more nausea or other bad symptoms, I vaped like a mad thing and managed to quit smoking. Then once the cigarettes were completely gone, I realized that I needed a little more than that, to keep cravings at bay, so now I vape 9mg in the daytime, 6-7 mg at night, and that works out very well.

If you are taking ANY psychotropic med, especially BENZODIAZEPINES do NOT take St. John's Wart without consulting your MD. Benzos, like Alprazolam (Xanax), Diazepam (Valium), Clonazepam (Klonopin), Lorazepam (Ativan) will interact BADLY with St. John's Wart, even a small amount can cause comma and/or death.
