sharpen saddle valve?

I'm guessing this is the correct place to post this. Anyway, my saddle valve that I use to punch holes in my cartos is starting to get a little dull (really have to crank it down crazy tight to keep it from slipping to the side). I read in a few places on here that you can sharpen the point, but no one ever said 'how' they sharpened 'em. So how do you sharpen yours?

I saw another member mention that they just use a nail file to sharpen their saddle valve. They do get dull quick. Just unscrew that top piece and it will come out of the saddle valve so that you are able to sharpen it. Good luck.

I use the nail files that are like sandpaper, so maybe regular sandpaper? A hunting knife stone would be great- it's really soft metal.

Careful tho, it won't POP in the carto now- goes in like butter- so I watch how far I'm going by looking in the side hole.

No nail clippers with the little swing out file attachment? No multi-tools? No swiss army knives? Most of those items have some sort of file on them. Hell, take it outside and sharpen the thing on some concrete.

If you know any plumbers, you can probably get some new ones for free. They're against plumbing code in most states, and are usually thrown in the trash.

I used saddle valve a few times and realized that sharp wood screw will do the job even better. I use one for a month now and it works awesome each time. First you hit it just a little to make a bent mark. Then you hit it harder and hole is there. Even cheaper than a cheap.

Not sure what brand saddle valve you have but mine had a point that I was able to remove. It is made of reg steel so I picked up a piece of carbide tig rod and cut of a short piece using the bench grinder then sharpened it. It works really good.
