I used a diff. brand of metal polish. Just the polish. The tumbled texture is finer (less physically deep) - or no coarser - than #0000 steel wool. So, if you can find some five-oh . . . . . .

sorry, what I meant was, when you sand with one grit, the next step down removes the scratches left by the first grit. Four-0 steel wool creates more "scratch" than was there to begin with, basically

You should not need any sandpaper for a new tumbled. Just start right in with the Mother's Mag.

Use a clean cloth and always a clean spot to apply and remove the polish. Very important that you always do each step with a clean area.

Apply and remove in circles, gentle pressure.

Keep a paper towel handy to wipe your hands if needed.

+1 on all of that, especially using a clean spot on the polishing cloth every time.

Congrats & have fun, it is worth it!

Noticing your Navy name... you might be familiar with Nevr Dull wadding polish. It is great after you get it polished with Mothers, for a quick touch up polish. IMO it helps with fingerprints.

Yeppers, that Never Dull is all that is needed to keep them pristine! And it goes a long way. I don't know how long that container will last me!

i only used Mother's Mag cuz that's what Karen said :)

after my arm went numb from polishing, i bought a Dremel and some polishing bits, so we'll see how that works out...

Be VERY careful with that Dremel. The spinning chuck is very close to what you're working on and gouges deeply, quickly. BTDT

Yes, you are right about the name and I was afraid someone would mention never-dull. It will bring back nightmares of being a young sailor, and tasked with shinning the whole dam ship! So, I hope I can get past the memories! LOL
