The new Lavatube 1.5 might be a good way to go. It strikes me as very user-friendly and the best variable voltage mod in its price-range. I believe Crystal Clear Vaping, Smoke Anywhere for Pennys, and iVape are offering them under various names, but someone feel free to chime in and correct me if I'm mistaken.

Vaporbeast has the newest 4amp, Version 2 Lavatube for $70 shipped. That's better than CCV, which was first on my list until the other day. The CCV one is $75 and version 1.5 with a 3.2amp limit.

i wasnt aware this one was actually out yet .. i would go with that one... looking at vb both the silver and black vector VV mods are out of stock, and neither one shows its 4amp in the description maby i am on the wrong page though..

Yep, they're out of stock now though. They should be in this week. Too bad their only available in black for now. I like the improved endcaps though. I actually think this one is made by L.Rider. The 1.5 is made by another company, Uniq. Or maybe I have it backwards. There are two more companies making Lavatubes now, for a total of 3, L.Rider, J. Lin and Uniq/June SomethingOrOther.

To get back to the O.P.... If you don't want to jump into variable voltage right now, you can 't beat a kGo for a good reliable starter. There are a million posts here from noobs who started with a kGo and love it. A lot of people use them for a long time without bothering to upgrade to fancier APV

The best deal going right now for a complete kGo starter kit, including free shipping and 36ml of juice is here:
Elite Vaporworks KGO Starter Kit with Boge LR Cartomizers - KGO

Don't waste your time, money and frustration with the "systems" like the eGo-T. You'll see post after post about them with problems and leaking, burning taste, etc. The only people who seem to really like them are the ones who got lucky and also never really had anything else to compare them to except a gas station mini-cig.

I didn't notice the silver one. If you hop over to the Lavatube forum, there's a lot of discussion and info about all the new Lavatube versions. I don't know why it's not on the description about the 4amps. Other people, including people who have them, have verified it though. It's been out in Europe for some time already.

For something uncomplicated that's going to give you the most options, perhaps an eGo Twist variable voltage battery (or two), and a mix of atomizers for dripping, clearomizers, and cartomizers at different resistances. This might give you an easy way to explore the different setups to find out what would work best for you without spending tons of money.

I started with a Joey passthrough. It worked great for me. But then I went and washed it. That was when I learned I had to have some kind of back up. I ordered up a Lavatube. Night and day difference. I would have bought the Lavatube in the beginning had I known it was going to make such a difference. Variable Volt mods are the only way to go. Having liked the Lavatube so much I decided to get the Provari. The Provari is rock solid!!! Do yourself a favor and get a VV mod so you can enjoy the full spectrum of vaping.

is the stainless steel varitube from ivape the same thing as the new lavatube 1.5? 79 dollar kit looks pretty sweet.
NEW Varitube SS (chrome) - Full Kit | Variable Voltage | MODS | iVAPE

No. It's not stainless steel for one. It's chrome plated brass. The only real stainless ones were the Vtube from Apollo. They sold a bunch of them on pre-order (I'm still kicking myself for not ordering) and it turned out to cost them an arm and a leg to make them. I think they still have some left, but they're WAY more $$ than the $60 pre-order price. And, they're still the version 1

The one in your link is also the version 1. So far, they haven't come out with a chrome one in the version 1.5. That's probably because there are two different companies making them. The version 1.5 is made by J. Lin. The version 1 is made by L. Rider. There is another company making one called the Lambda. It's also version 1 electronics.

I see. sounds like the new one is worth the wait. hopefully they'll keep the price reasonable too because I'll probably wait til I see some feedback on it first instead of pre-ordering. looks like about $105 for the SS apollo vtube.
Yeah, for $70 you can't beat it. You can see some feedback from the people who have it on the Lavatube forum. It's been out long enough to be sold out already.

any functional reason some have the ridged caps and others straight and tapered?
The Vtube one has an ego style endcap so it's compatible with ego attachments. The new version 2 has sloped endcaps for aesthetics probably. They don't have a drip well. The ridged cap was the original and acts as a drip well. I like the Vtube/ego style because it has a drip well too, but some people have reported that the draw on theirs is too "airy".
