Shorted battery

Shorted out an 18650 for about a second would it be safe to use? At least for a few days until I can buy a replacement.

Was checking clearance in a Keystone battery holder and forgot to bend the tabs back

I would not use this battery.

That can be enough to damage the battery. better to be safe than sorry and not use it.

Why chance it? Google some pictures of battery failure injuries if you're on the fence.

Get yourself a new battery just to be safe.

One second? Did it get warm/hot? I'm not advocating using a dangerous battery, and I suppose my health and welfare are worth more than the price of a single battery, but one second? Is that really long enough to make the battery dangerous?

Edit: And that was post 666 for me. In the name of all that is holy - replace that battery!

oh dear god save this poor fool, thought i was going to have to order a replacement but just remembered a new vape shop just opened up not to long ago called and they carry 18650s! score

Doesn't it only take literally a second to short a battery?
Be safe and recycle it.
I recently saw an experiment with Masty from Plumes, he (in a safe setting) hard shorted an 18650, was pretty much instant heat with a puff of smoke.

ok battery replaced, now whats a good way to empty the battery i shorted so i can use it for sizing in wood mods?

I guess, well, you are going to have to short it ¬ but in a controlled fashion.The only way that comes to mind would be to pulse it in a mod/RDA with just wire until its flat, but that kind of defeats the point of marking it as dangerous. I think the effort required would exceed any benefits. Perhaps just mocking up a dummy with the same dimensions? Making an 18x65mm cylinder can't be that tricky.
