Take a large format battery, remove the atty/cart/carto, screw the cone on.
Take a roll of insulating tape and wind it around the cone, to try and create a cutting line / edge to work to. This is tricky on a cone but can be done. It's an old trick for cutting a tube with a hacksaw because if you don't do this, the cut wanders off badly.
Lay the battery plus cone down so that it is supported in some sort of notch. For example, a part-open vice is good. It is probably not a good idea to grip the batt in a vice - a notch of some kind is ideal.
Take a junior hacksaw and very carefully cut along the tape edge. You cannot cut deeply as the cut will wander off-line. Just break
through then rotate the tube. Gradually cut and rotate so that you have eventually cut downward at every point on the cone's surface.
The cut will complete, on the desired line. Take some medium, then fine, sandpaper and smooth off. Carefully clean all the swarf (the fine cutting dust) from inside the cone and from off all the batt
threads.
Job done.
