Hi folks,

Newbie here looking for some help. I was given some shortfill liquid by a friend (pre mixed by them) and I've noticed there are some lumpy/scummy bits on the top of the liquid. I have had issues with shortfill separating before but this seems different. When I shake the liquid, for a good couple of minutes, it goes cloudy and then as it's left to sit it seems to settle and the cloudiness disappears but there is a kind of scum or film that sits on top.

Any ideas of what this is? What i can do to resolve this? Is it ok to vape?

Cheers

Did you shake it up? If so, its air bubbles in the juice. The cloudiness comes from micro beads of flavor mixing together. What flavor is it? Some flavors like white peach will leave a foamy top sometimes.

Thanks for your input guys. I won't hopenit for now and will ask him a bit more on Monday.

The liquid has been made using a pg flavour shot and then topped up with 100% vg 18ml nicotine and 100% vg.

The "bubbles" only appear after shaking and the white film settles on the top after a while. It is a fruit ice cream flavour (twister ice cream/Lolly if you are familiar with it).

Is that pic after it settled or after shaking? I get kinda the same thing with a reaction between some flavours, menthol or EM crystals and cold. If thats it leave it in a warmer place, you can warm it up in water for a quick fix for dripping but if left in a tank that will get cold it goes back to cloudy. Green Apple Candy and Juicy Peach do it in the winter here overnight.

Welcome and glad you joined.
I would not vape that, your choice.

I wouldn't vape it either, it sounds weird to me. Sometimes, depending on flaovors and additives you can get odd reactons, but it really shouldn't necessarily be separating out like that, or foaming. I'd be particularly cautious as (after doing DIY myself) it's really important that everything stay clean, hygienic, etc., and since (unless you've seen your friend mix it) it's looking kind of odd, it may have particulates or other unclean materials that you don't want to vape. Nothing against your friend, but that doesn't sound like "the norm" for a DIY flavor to me. Perhaps if you watched him mix it and saw his ingredients (and maybe look at some "born on" dates if there are any) you might feel more comfortable. With the present situation, I probably wouldn't feel that comfortable, and I would at the very least wait until you can ask him more about it, but likely wouldn't vape it at all.

DIY is great, I think, but one of the reasons I like it is that *I* get to control the variables. Similarly, I am picky about storebought juices, I wouldn't buy any from China and etc. It is certainly true that without DIY (and sometimes with it, since we are buying the component parts-- flavors, nic, PG/VG etc) it can be hard to know for "sure" what's in an e-liquid, but I like DIY because I can use what I consider reputable vendors, and know my own "clean" process. Plus, any germs are my own and etc. I'd have to really know a vaper (IRL) before I necessarily wanted to "taste" their e-liquid.

I will admit I am a bit queasy about some stuff, like I won't vape (or offer a vape) without cleaning the drip tip with rubbing alcohol before and after, etc. I was the same way with cigarettes. I would rather GIVE someone an entire cigarette than a PUFF, as most people who requested cigarettes or "puffs" were not people I desired to share saliva with or any type of bodily fluid for that matter. Same when I worked in a restaurant.... There is too much Hep B about for me to want to "catch" that by swapping spit. LOL.
