So I'm not the biggest worry wart when it comes to batteries. I have some good batteries for my mechs or when I want to push a regulated box hard. (mated pairs 1x vtc5, 1x vtc4, 2x lg he4) I have decent batteries for daily work in the regulated boxes (many mated pairs 25r, solid work horse and I had a good deal on them)
Alas some of my 25r's are getting old and need to be replaced. I'm not going out looking just yet, but I see the need coming. I went to my local brick and mortar for some of their excellent house juice and saw they were having a sale on vtc5's 2 for $20. Now I didn't buy them as I'm not 100% sure they aren't fakes but I am tempted. If they are legit the price isn't too bad for item in hand and vtc5's are good batteries. My big issue is talking to the store owner (who I am truly beginning to like as a person) and he snubs the vtc5's and my he4's for Cloud chaser "40 amps."
I get he has to push the gear that makes him a profit, and is most likely getting a better profit for the Cloud chaser batteries which he sells for a higher price. But should I be bothered by this? I kinda am, but also not. I go to his establishment for house juice at reasonable price. Most, if not all, my gear is purchased online because the prices are considerably better. I can kinda deal with the salesman aspect dealing with him, and it's not like the batteries he was recommending are unsafe for the uses I was flashing around the store today. It's just batteries can be a big safety concern.
I'm thinking about buying a pair of the vtc5's and checking them out. If they're legit I might just grab up enough to have 6 new pairs of batteries to add to my rotation. But this has me wondering if I should even try his vtc5's, it just puts a bad taste in my mouth. I'll still buy juice there it's so very tasty, and they treat me right. (Won a free 100 ml today on a goofy challenge/bar bet situation. They give me full Law Enforcement discount where many shops wouldn't give Corrections the time of day. I have been given 15 ml samples a few times. And more like that.)
