Going the slow boat from China route on the subox kit and Evic VT kit for myself and another. Just wondering if I should pick up any additional things via slow boat since there's no rush at the moment. I have Samsung 25r but also NCR18650B unprotected flat top which I am not sure will work? I've heard it's best to have 3 spare batteries, 1 in device, 1 charged, 1 charging so wondering if I ought to get an extra battery for subox also.
Thanks for any help or advice.

It's always good to have backup stuff for sure. I usually leave my house with an extra battery. All the other stuff.... Cotton, wire, and such, you would be wise to have extra at home for when you do need it. But I know people that don't have extra anything, they pay the b&m "to do all that". They only vape, haven't gotten into building, and have no desire to.
Not me, I'll build anything if it saves me any money, I'm kinda proud that I can build stuff....

It's wise to have backups when you vape. You can get cotton and wire on amazon or in local vape shops as well as china if you're headed into coiling. I don't know what tanks you're going to use but I bet they sell the replacement factory OCC type coils in china for them too.

Thanks folks. Okay I think I might have misunderstood something. I thought people replaced the cotton whether or not they were completely rebuilding the head with a new coiled wire? Like you get a new bit of cotton in there when you are changing flavours or when it gets all grimy? I think Evic VT works much more efficiently when using the titanium and the nickel heads and I don't think those can be rebuilt? I'll just use the tanks they come with as full kits. I asked on another forum and someone said I might find that it's actually more economical to just order full heads rather than build my own? Possibly owing to the efficiency of the TC heads?

Personally, I wouldn't use any batteries from the 'slow boat'. They're the most crucial link in the vaping chain, and also the most easily corrupted.
Whatever else you do, buy good batteries from reputable battery vendors. There are several.
Bottom line...you're holding this thing next to your face.

Thanks, it's definitely best to be careful, especially since I don't really know what I'm doing! I look over the fast tech discussions and chatter on other sites about specific batteries to figure out what is most likely to be genuine. I feel like it's kind of always a risk buying batteries from more 'reputable' brick and mortar shops can have issues up the supply chain they are not aware of too. What retailers might you suggest to be best bets? I'm in Canada so I don't want to get hosed that hard on conversion fees and international mail! thanks

Canvape sells 25r's for around 7 bucks CAD. The ones I've got from there are fine. Cheers.

Welcome to the Looney Bin, Quaze :)

Do take a gander through Baditude's blogs.... (my computer is being stupid right now, so I can't get you a link - do a search at the top of the page, or find a thread from Baditude and click on his avitar. Then, you can get a link from his information screen.) He talks extensively about battery safety and from where to get good batteries.

Your mods sound pretty awesome. Just make sure you know the limitations of your batteries for the resistance of the coils you're using on those mods and the power at which you're driving them....

Glad you're here!

Check out Orbtronics for your 25r's and I'd suggest forgetting the NCR18650B IIRC they are only a 5-6 amp battery.
If you're planning on winding coils check out Temco they are the wire manufacturer and ship free to the US, don't know about Canada.
Cotton, I use sterile cotton balls from CVS or Walmart. I'm not a fan of organic cotton (just me probably), never had the desire to try ... cotton.

Thanks everyone, appreciate all the welcoming help. Regretting 25r from fast tech now that I know about canvape. When I google canvape it shows a retail location on spadina and some hours. Are the batteries really available for that price there? would be great! i notice though that they list some retail locations on their site and say prices are higher? Thanks again.

Thanks. There's actually a surprising amount of negative chatter about canvape. a lot of ppl who felt warranties weren't honoured or they otherwise received subpar service after having parted with their money. People even questioning their batteries. This is why I wonder what the dif is with buying from fast tech. I hope it is not against the rules to post a thread from another forum for informational purposes. This forum is far better, this just came up in a google when I was researching canvape.

Has anyone bought samsung 25r's from canvape? Are they authentic? : Canadian_ecigarette

So really, even if I'm not rebuilding, won't the heads these devices come with only last a couple weeks? Shouldn't I be ordering replacement heads at the same time? And did I misunderstand that replacing just the cotton is actually rebuilding and most ppl don't do that themselves? Thought you had to change that very regularly? So shouldn't I be buying more right away?

Thanks

Hi quaze.

With the Evic, it has replaceable heads : http://www.joyetech.com/product/details.php?gno=247 When the wicking and coil gets gunked up you will have to replace these/ or rebuild them (I am assuming they can be rebuilt with titanium or nickel wire + cotton). In the tanks I have owned coils last usually 2 weeks, but the type of juice effects the coil life (darker sweeter juices are harder on coils and may gunk faster). If you aren't going to try and recoil these heads (if it is possible, and probably is) then you might want to consider buying some replacement heads (coils).

With the Kanger Subox kit, it comes with a rebuilding deck where you can coil your own coils and wicking with cotton. They would use kanthal wire (I do not know if the nickel or titanium would work here as the Subox doesn't have temperature control.) This unit also comes with 2 factory OCC coils, the plug and play type of .5 ohms, and 1.5 ohms. The subtank I own uses 1.2 ohm, but I don't know if they are interchangeable with the subtank on this unit. Therefore I would suggest, if you aren't going to coil and wick in the rebuild deck that you order more of the OCC factory coils in the resistance of your choosing (.5 ohms or 1.5 ohms).

Lots of people change out the cotton in the rebuildable decks and clean the wire instead of swapping gout the entire coils. (It's cheaper to do this in the long run) I would suggest you stay with just replacing the coils until you learn the ins and outs of your new devices. When I ordered my first subtank I also ordered the replacement OCC coils so I wouldn't have to jump right into rebuilding. However, when you change the OCC coils, keep the old one, because down the road when you learn to coil and wick you can rebuild these and always have spares available.

Hope this helps.

Reading comprehension has struck me again.... Or lack of.

I went back and re read the post, realized your talking about the subtank... Duh!

I have no experience with the sub tank so couldn't give you any advice on it whatsoever. I only know that it won't fire any coil under .5ohm it's a safety mechanism.
The subox mini kit OP has will fire down to 0.3 ohms, an upgrade from the Kangertech kbox of 0.4 ohms.
