Should I upgrade to a Protank 3?

Hi all!

I've been vaping a Provari Mini v2.5 for nearly a year now, and I'm loving it! I'm still using the Protank 2 that came with the Provari and I was wondering if I should get a new tank for my PV. I know that the Protank 3 is dual coil, but I don't really know what the difference is between that and the single coil Protank 2 that I'm using now. Would the coils last longer? Would they make the juice taste better? Would they burn through juice faster?

Anyway, I was just wondering if I should upgrade my tank, because I've been using the same setup for so long. I plan on sticking with my Provari for as long as it lasts me, but I'd love to hear from anyone that can tell me how I can experience a better vape. My knowledge on vaping is kind of limited...

If you use a Kanger tank you're gonna have to turn the power down. If you use a Nautilus tank you're gonna have to turn it up. Either is a good tank, they just operate a little differently. The Kanger will give you a little more air flow but not everyone likes more air flow. Tanks are, in large part, about personal preference. I use the Kangers. My batteries charge last longer because I can turn it down & I like more air flow. If you turn the Kangers up hot they'll start eating coils. You'll get the same result if you over restrict the air flow. Hope this helps. JMHO

Is it better than an external airflow control? I guess it'd be kind of similar.

Does it also take the protank1 & 2 heads?

One advantage of the old heads is I can dry burn it every few days and a head lasts for about a month

Not sure what you mean... the ones I use are the single coil PT2 (v2) with the Airflow control valve (v1) as illustrated on the left in the above pic. I've never tried the PT3 or the Aerotank because they require dual coils which are more expensive (and burn the juice faster). I've seen the new Aerotank (v2) with the new Airflow control valve, but I've never used one so I can't say as how they compare. IMO, the greatest advantage of the ACV on the PT2 is that it prevents airflow clogging, and leaks down into the battery, which sometimes happens on the PT2 by itself.

I was just wondering if I can still use the old style heads (available for protank and protank2) with such "modded" protank :)

I still prefer the single coil heads (Kanger ProTank & Evod Coil Replacement **5 Pack - 2.2 ohms). I am not a fan of dual coil and I can easily dry burn those heads so they last for about a month

Yes, regardless of the base you use, whether stock or with the ACV, they still use the regular single coil heads inside. No problem! I dry-burn them too, after soaking in PGA and washing under hot water. And I remove the flavor wicks sometimes, too, because when they are burnt, no amount of cleaning will remove the burnt taste. Dry-burning seems to clean the coil wick pretty well, though. But they don't last a month! I generally get a week out of one before I have to clean and dry-burn them, but then I only get a day or two out of them before they begin to taste funny.

Thank you :)

I dry burn the coils until they pop then toss them. Flavor wicks get washed with water then torched but they are easy to replace anyway.

However I agree that a stock coil will last almost a week initially and then I have to clean it like twice a week.

@93gc40 I am really sorry for hijacking your thread

You know, if you buy them in boxes of 50, they are alot cheaper! On eBay you can get them easily for less than a dollar a piece when you buy bulk.

Now I know!

Do you know of a reputable seller?

I just checked and the only seller I've used for bulk is not selling any right now, but if you browse the listing, just make sure they say "authentic (or genuine) Kanger product" and refer to the Kanger packaging with the Kanger authenticity scratch-off code:

Get the code and go to the our website www.kangertech.com. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and enter the code in the "Serial Number" section to authenticate if it’s genuine.

My wife and I have been diehard protank 1&2 users since they came out. I have drifted off the kanger path once in a while buying some drippers but always seemed to be back using protanks.
I have read enough about PT3, Aspire Nautilus, stock dual coil and vertical coils to never want to ever buy those products, they are inconsistent and huge frustration makers that have no real solutions to their issues.
All I can say is that learning to rebuild your just regular PT single coils you can have a top shelf vape quality easily surpassing those stock dual/vertical coils and have no frustration at all. I've had ZERO issues with any of my protank builds and now that I'm enjoying a kayfun I'm using my protanks less and less. Something as simple as removing the stock wicking out of the head and replacing with a twisted Qtip swab batting, you'll amaze yourself.
As for the kanger airflow adapters, they are the game changer for the protanks. I did drill my adapter to 1/16 so I can now vape nice low ohm builds (.6+) with my protanks and be happy, but they do come apart in time and have to be re pressfitted back together. I use 2 sockets and a small hammer not to damage the threads or tap it back crooked.

@wjosephsimmons After a few weeks of using the Aerotank base with my Protank2, I have to say that I am completely satisfied with the protanks. It never leaks. Gargles sometimes but disappears after a while (Or I top-off the tanks), I have never had such an air flow. My protanks were usually tight but not anymore.

I am really thankful for the tip :)
