Exactly which is why I wasn't about to all if I could vape. Not to mention want really thinking about it at the time.
Thank you everyone

Something just came to mind. When you get any type of mouth piercing.. Lip or tounge, your not supposed to smoke. I assume that is due to the carcinogens leading to the infection and the actual smoke which would make it different then vaping

The doctor left right after stitching me up, and the nurse seemed like he barely n knew his in name. Didn't feel like trying to explain something most likely new to him (ecigs are not very wide spread where i live to the point if someone know what one is, it's a blu they have seen on a commercial on TT v) so he could just say not to do it.

They *always* say "don't smoke" -- as if that's possible, for a smoker! -- for anything to do with the mouth. They'd do the same with vaping, I'm 99% certain. For me, "don't smoke" might as well have been swahili, for all the good it does -- smokers can't just turn off that need, and I'm pretty sure neither can vapers -- I sure couldn't. If you are addicted, you do what you must to get what you need. Hence, doing it carefully, softly, trying to decrease the amount of suction you need in order to get a hit, maybe increasing the nic level a bit so you don't need to do it so often, etc -- and yeah, whatever you do put in your mouth, make sure it's clean. The vapor itself is not an issue, as was explained above.

ok. first of all i'm sorry, i know it was a serious situation … but that has got to be one of the funniest lines i've ever read here! omg, i laughed so hardz!

Oh, it is funny (in a way)! You don't know the half of it - I got my tongue pierced all the way through by one; my hubby got his ear bitten and had to wear his head completely wrapped in gauze for several days to prevent cauliflower ear! Those are just the most extreme incidents (along with getting my lip almost torn off). There have been many more in almost 25 yrs. of owning parrots! Parrots are very moody! :?: And smart, loving, funny, and sweet....

I recently had an incident with one of my parrots; got my upper lip torn in half horizontally (ugh, yes!). Had to have 5 stitches. It has healed pretty well, thankfully. I vaped as much as normally - no problem.

Ouch! Note to self - stick with dogs and cats for pets, no parrots!:D

And back to you, OP, with your poor fat lip! You've gotten some good advice, and I know you will do what feels okay to you. And did you say you went back to work after the stitches? You are a brave sort.:)

You said it right, Andria. I've had more dental work than I care to remember in my life, including lots of extractions. They always said "Don't smoke." And I always smoked. I remember my lips being too numb to keep the cigarette between them. No problem, I just held my lips shut with both hands and puffed away.:D Gently, of course.

I woulda been vaping on the way to hospital, in the hospital and home from the hospital as I am still a recovering smoker. Addiction does not tell me when to vape. That's a good one you got on the lip. Like I tell my employees, if you happen to fall off a ladder you are fired before you hit the ground.

Yeah that last incident, 3 teeth pulled, and god there's no way to refrain from smoking when the stupid dentist doped you with valium.. So I had my husband get me the biggest sharpest scissors we had, and I cut off half the filter from about half a pack.. by the time they were gone, there was no more need to worry about bleeding. The best you can do is try to be as kind as possible to whatever wound there is, but going into nic withdrawal is horrible, on top of already being in pain. Docs and nurses and dentists always said stupid crap like that, "don't smoke," and I always just said "yeah right." My husband would just smile and shake his head. :smokie: That was me, until I was :vapor:

Likewise. In fact probably laying there vaping as they were loading me on the stretcher. Heck, I smoked all thru labor, except the last bit. But that last bit might have been a lot easier with a cigarette between pains. :D In 1988 everyone hadn't [yet] become so .... about "no smoking" everywhere.

YEEKS i hope now that you're stitched up it hurts less than it looks like it does in your pic up there.

FWIW, i'm another one who also smoked after every tooth extraction and all the dental work i ever had ... even multiple wisdom tooth extractions, and never had any problems or complications, and never had an issue with slow healing.

what i did was took a small piece of gauze, wet it with sterile-right-from-the-bottle-distilled water, and covered the affected tooth area with it - and thus successfully avoided the dreaded 'dry socket', and infection, EVERY TIME, even while smoking normally after all dental procedures when i was sternly told NOT to smoke. hehe. snicker. Since the wound area was covered and kept moist, no smoke ever got into the wound or open socket. You could do something similar by draping the stitched part of your bottom lip with some wet gauze, then gently using the opposite corner of the mouth for the tip of your PV.

another thing you could try (which i JUST tried to see if it would work, and it did!), is: after inserting the vape tip into the opposite corner, use the fingers of your free hand to hold your lips closed around it, so it makes a seal - then just inhale without moving your lips, nor pursing them. i just tried this and yes! it worked fine - no need to even move the lips at all. By using this method you can gently inhale without using your lips at all, nor pulling on the wound.

good luck, i hope you heal fast and well ... and honestly, i really think you will be ok to vape by being careful. :2cool: :vapor:
