Should you add nicotine after or before steeping?

Oxygen is bad for nicotine as I know. Some people says heat is bad for it too if you are speed steeping it.
But does anyone know if it makes any difference adding nicotine before or after steeping?
Does nicotine need to be in the process of steeping?
Anyone has done some experiment on it?

Cheers guys

From my understanding, it needs to be added when you mix since it is figured into your PG/VG I mean I use 100mg Nic that is in a PG base so when adding up my 50/50 the nic is a factor in the PG ratio but I just started in DIY so maybe I am wrong

You can still mix, just leave out the nicotine percentage.

I am warm water steeping my e liquid and I'm using a temp of 130 F for 6 hours, I've heard you can go up to 150 F without harming the nicotine. I'm only using 3 mg nicotine, I went down from 18 mg to 3 mg very easily. I like flavor and don't care much about the nicotine. I should thing steeping at room temp shouldn't affect the nicotine much. Adding nicotine after the steeping process is quick and simple so the nicotine is definitely not harmed. I just don't concern myself with the nicotine.

This is an interestingly no thought. I don't steep primarily because I don't want to go out of my way to break down the nicotine into undesirable byproducts. If steeping does work without the nicotine it could be worthwhile.

I don't think anyone does this. An experiment may be in order.

I think even a bit of heat steeping if you don't get too intense about it, isn't going to degrade the nicotine much. I mean, my nic arrived fairly warm, it was the middle of summertime, and I refrigerated a small amount and froze the rest of it. It was fine on arrival. I think if you were to *boil* your mixes, you might have an issue, but regular heat or just plain steeping shouldn't harm your nicotine. I always add mine when mixing because I have everything out, and it would just be a PITA next step I'd have to do involving getting everything out again.

I could see maybe not adding it to a flavor mix you are being all experimental with, but mainly I add my nic when I mix. Never noticed any issues....

I think the experiment sounds like a good idea but it seams laziness wins out since who wants to get all that out again, I mean for someone like me mixing only small amounts of stuff right now it feels like I am not getting any loss, however maybe someone like @Fozzy71 or @dobroeutro who have months maybe even years of backstock this would be worth checking out.

I have seen some people say (not sure if it was this forum or another) that nic is needed for the maillard reaction to happen. I have added nic to 0mg juice (recently in fact) and can't really tell any difference.

I think I mixed about 10 x 100ml bottles this month..... ran myself out of 120 and 150ml bottles.

Not pictured are 2 x 100ml bottles of 0mg nic juice and about 500ml of my kitchen sink mix in an old 1 liter nic bottle. I should be good until at least Christmas. :D

I don't have a clue whether adding nic before or after aging makes a difference or if you have to allow additional aging, if you add it later. That said, I'm lazy... :D. I add nic to all my mixes. I don't use heat, mixers or anything to alter the process. I mix by weight directly into the bottle, shake & store. I rarely mix more than a month ahead on my regulars and usually have 8 to 10 testers going at any given time. I like to keep things simple & that works just fine for me...

I'm not in the same league as @Fozzy71... lol. :)

How long will those last you? lol
I don't really pay attention to how much I vape as I keep 8 - 10 mods in rotation. I would guess I vape 400 - 600 ml per month in the past of 3mg nic but I decided to bump up all of the stash to 4.5mg nic last week so I may end up vaping less once I run out of 3mg and move on to the 4.5mg. Counting the kitchen sink bottle and the 0mg nic bottles I have about 2.5 liters steeping (not counting my room mates 1/2 liter of menthol that I never vape myself) so that is about 5 or 6 months worth of juice on the low end of my monthly consumption estimate. Most of the juice I am vaping right now was mixed in May and June.
