Should you poke holes in the cotton of your coils?

Hi guys how are you? So I know how to prime my coils. (Talking store bought coils) but I've heard talk that you should poke the cotton to help it wick. The guys at the vape shop I go to advised against it!? Any advice? Thanks! Had my .25 coil in my crown tank and it was great! I'm on my 6 th day vaped 17 -4 ml tanks thought the flavor was going on it but seems to be ok. Just inquiring for my next coil I replace. Also some folks said once you change coils prime it and let it sit overnight? Overkill or naw?

Imo, for manufactured coil heads; don't poke any holes, you risk making them flood and leak. Also, priming the coil with 3-4 drops, (and 1 for each juice hole), then waiting for ~10 minutes after filling the tank is sufficient. New coils don't need to sit for hours to prepare them for use.

I wouldn't do it unless you're having wicking problems already. Then I suppose it's worth a shot, at least. I've only heard of this with the old horizontal OCC coils for the Kanger Subtank line, although I suppose other coils might have the same basic structure and benefit (or not) from the same practice.

Thanks guys! What about the coils on my cleito tank? Poke holes or no? Also is 17 tanks of one coil 68 ml of juice good mileage on one coil? The taste is still there but starting to fade a bit but no dry or burnt hit! Could probably get a few more tanks. I don't know how people get 2-3 weeks out of one coil??

As bwh79 said, I wouldn't poke any holes unless you're trying to resolve a known wicking problem with a specific coil. 17 tanks/68 ml of juice off one coil sounds like good mileage to me. Use it until you're no longer satisfied with the results. As for getting weeks off of one coil; I've never managed that.. which is one of the major reasons I ordered a Phoenix yesterday. I hope to get months of use from the included ceramic coil in that one, as CoV claims their internal tester has.

I vape primarily unflavored, so I have a Kayfun tank with a coil that's been in for literally months and it's still truckin' along nearly good as new. And anything with a rebuildable coil in it is nice because when it starts to go sour you can just pull the wick, dry-burn the coil and then stick a nice fresh piece of cotton in there, and it's like you have a brand new coil again!

Yea................not so much with a TFV4-Quad coil. More like 20-25 drops :D

Wet is what you are looking for.
Before installing add:
A few drops, wait for it to absorb, then a few more.........Repeat if needed
IF, you accidentally over wet the coil and flood the center, just hold a tissue to the bottom and blow out the excess.
Wet the side holes/slits, 2 times.
Install the coil
Fill the Tank
9 times out of 10 - Ready to vape.
Wait 15 minutes if unsure.

4 Years and the only New wick fried was an accidental firing of a Dry Nickel coil when checking resistance., should have used the Meter:oops:

Hole Poking???...........Strictly for the Newer Kanger Subtank Coils(First run batches) and be careful Not to move the cotton from the side holes or it WILL Flood.

Well, yeah, ya need more juice to prime those big ol ones.

The little guys, (Kangers, etc), are less thirsty. ;)

They get that mileage by only vaping 5ml. A day. We shouldn't use chronological measurements for coil life but rather Ml. Vaped. It's not perfect system but much better than counting calendar days.

Very true. My average juice consumption is more in the 10ml-15ml/day range.

@DavidAmonettNashville true I agree. I vape 12-16 ml a day. So you think I get mileage 68ml per coil? This was .25 crown being vaped at 55-60 watts!

I average 20ml/Day or so, spread over several tanks and a few RDA's. Most of my wicks will last for Weeks and coils last Months on end. Some as much as 6 Months and still going like new.

If I could get 1/2 that on a replaceable head I'd be ecstatic.(Not Happening)

I'd be pretty happy with that head life at that power. Plus I've only heard of poking holes in horizontal coils. This allows a bit of wick feeding from the inside.

In Canada I pay 21-25 dollars for 3ml juice. I still find it cheaper than smoking. Must be even cheaper in the USA no?

I assume you meant 30 ml of juice? $21-$25 for 3 ml is a little pricey. :D

I've been buying mine for ~$20 per 120 ml. I'm spending significantly less than what I did on smoking, (PAD of American Spirits at ~$9 per). It'd be even cheaper if I wanted to step it up to 240 ml, (or 480 ml), but I haven't found a juice I like quite that much yet.

The Cleito is my best tank, and I didn't poke HOLES, but I did lightly (VERY VERY LIGHTLY) poke a bit at my coil, and it did wick better. I do NOT recommend straight up holes, that's what a friend did with the same tank and it flooded constantly.

Cleito = a bit of scratching but I can NOT stress enough NO HOLES.

3mg maybe? o_O

Yea, $25 for 3ml, I'd be broke in a few Days. I DIY and average a few Penny's per Ml. :D
I DIY too. Hard to believe that I once spent $22 per 30ml. The only thing that regularly reminds me is my wife who still vapes store bought juices. But it was I who was the heavyweight of juice consumption so I suppose it worked out better this way.
