I've been vaping for over two years, started with the 510's, used them for around a year, then graduated to the long 510's ,so I wouldn't have to refill the carts so often, or charge the batts so often. Then graduated to the whoppers...first eGo's , then mega eGos. Wow! The batts lasted for hours and hours and I topped off the carts only a few times a day!

Was a happy camper for about six months.....then the trouble started. The mega eGo batts lately, and I've bought 6 , from different vendors, don't last for more than three or four hours.I kept switching vendors, not being really sure if it was them or joyetech.

Finally, I have to conclude that joyetech is putting out lower quality products now.Perhaps, with so many people discovering the joy of not having to smoke analogs anymore, they're being flooded with orders and can't keep up with the demand and so the quality suffers.

I'm ordering a couple extra long 510's / atties, and sending back the last four mega eGo's for a refund. Hopefully not enough people still use the 510's, so that they're still well made.

Despite the fancy packaging and regulated circuitry, inside of every ego/Riva/Tornado or whatever there is a LiIon battery which will have a limited number of re-charges (~300 give or take a few).

The problem with a self contained system is that you have to toss the whole thing after a while which can get to be expensive at roughly $20/pop. One can get high mAh batteries from China (Deal Extreme) for $3.

Of course, a lot depends on the type of atty/carto you are using and your own vaping habits which include resistance.

So the battery becomes a consumable the same way that juice and attys/cartos are.

If you go to a mod, you have the investment in the mod. On the other hand, you have the higher maintenence costs of a system (more expensive attys/cartos/tanks although you can still use 510 stuff) but with a slick design in a relatively compact housing.

I love my ProVari and BuzzPro with either a tank& carto or Vapemate but only for use at home/office since they both look like WMD's. When out and about, I use my ReoMini's.

There are lots of good compact mods which use replaceable batteries: ePower, mini RoughStack, Ikon, GLV's, etc. The ePower is fairly cheap as is the RoughStack; the others are far more expensive.

I got away from the ego style a long time ago for the abysmal failure rates I was getting with the Tornados and switch failures with the Rivas, but they kept me away from analogs.

Vaping is anything but plug and play; it is also a journey with many different paths. While there are some really bad PV's out there, the ones mentioned are all pretty good ones. On the other hand, they all have their ups and downs, including the ego.

As a vaper, you need to make informed choices based on your needs and personality.

I've only got the one eGo battery and the thing last a good long time so I'm thinking that perhaps the problem might be that you are using LR cartos or atomizers maybe. I bought mine fairly recently.

I've also got an e-power ....1050 mah batteries go in that. A starter kit will run around $50 or you can just buy the pieces you want. Replacement batteries are around 6-7$, but I've not needed to replace one yet (about 4 months in). If you are going to get an e-power or any mod device, I do recommend you get a quality battery charger. The one supplied w/ the epower kit is flimsy and broke on me.

These days there's not a lot of difference between lithium batts.
If you had longer lasting batts before your problem, then it's probably something else.
Could it be your batch of attys ? Or your charger ?
tonyorion is right, all big e-cigs are basically the same, it's not rocket science, it's just a steady voltage to a coil.
Try one of the big batt mods, 18350 or 18650, you'll have more choice of batts are cheaper, are easier to find
and easier to trouble shoot cos the parts are separated.

I have no idea where I'm at
Is there no way to replace the batt inside an ego? Unless it is soldered together, then there must be a way to just change out the internal batt. I haven't tried as I don't want to possibly ruin a good batt, but as soon as one fails I might try treaing it down to find out.

My oldest ego batt is 11 months old, and I charge about every other day, so it might be some time before a failure. aprox. 300 charges @ every other day = close to 600 days, or 1.6 years. Nice.

I was thinking about getting an e-power, but I'm rotating 2 650's and an 1100, plus a 650 passthough and on top of that I have 2 spare 650's, so the cost is not warranted. I also heard the threads on the e-power are weak. All my batts are joye, so I am confident in their QC. BTW, I rarely use a dual coil, and no LR's, so that should help.

That said, has anyone replaced an internal batt in an ego? Carts are supposed to be consumables, but with cleaning and mainanence, I have used them for 80+ refills without a problem (carts and ego-t atties).

Saludos

I'm sick of Ego everything, mostly no flavor...not to mention leaky tanks, condensation in the mouthpieces, and did I mention no flavor.

I'm waiting for the SuperT manufacturing PrecisePlus, by all accounts it's the Rolls Royce of mods, and with carto/tank setup I'm hoping it'll be the one that satisfies.

like the original poster, I too have been vaping for 2 yrs ... I currently use the 900 or 1,000 mah batteries, bought from different vendors, but all genuine Joye ... I rotate my batteries and always have one on charge with a 2 yr old Joye 150 mah charger ... I have noticed the 900's don't last quite as long as the 1,000's ... I do vape heavy and I use a 1.5 LR mega atomizer with 100% VG juice ... no doubt my battery life is affected by my atty, juice and vaping habit ... and it very well could be my 2 yr old charger is giving out too ... I've got 5 batteries I rotate and I'm still using a couple 6 month old 1,000 mah batteries, so I really can't complain about the Joye batteries <shrug> vaping is fluid, you just have to adjust, whether it's a bad product, bad batch, old charger, change in hardware or habits, whatever, there are other good and better products out there

I am adding G0-go products to my stock, maybe they have a solution for you ... a 1300 mah Go-go battery, with an adapter so I can still use my Joye LR atomizers while using up my Joye batteries ... I can charge my Go-go on my existing charger with an adapter and I'll buy more Go-go batteries as my Joye batteries bite the dust ... I have always used atomizers, but I am going to try the Go-go cartomizers, they are highly praised, we'll see ... if I have to change my habits I will ... after 40 yrs of smoking, I enjoy vaping, but I just want simple and consistent, like everyone else ... best luck to you

Tips:

-- Use a mini 510 charger, with an adapter, to charge your large-format (eGo-type) batteries - at least some of the time. Slow charging is better for the cell than fast charging.

-- They might be advertised as 'good for 300 re-charges', but you will be lucky to get that. If you never take it down to the flashing 'dead' light, and you always use a 510 mini (slow) charger, then you could be lucky.

-- It may say Joye on the pack, and the vendor may be confident it is a genuine Joye battery - but there are many factories in China making clone 'Joye eGo' batteries. Thousands of people have got batteries that said Joye on the pack but are cheap knock-offs. There are a lot more Gucci handbags out there than the factory ever made.

Lol that's the best analogy I've seen to answer the question "Is it a Joye or a knockoff?" Real or knockoff though, I've come to the conclusion that LR atty's/carto's kill eGo type batteries. I'll stick with SR carto's until I step up to mods. I only have one eGo type (Inferno 650 w/passthrough) but when I pick up a second I'll probably start using the 'slow charge' recomendation.

I have to believe it's a charging issue as previously stated. Have you tried purchasing a new charger? Those rapid chargers will also kill the batteries quicker but you seem to be talking short term. You are saying right from the start they don't hold a charge long?

Also, are you using lower res carts? They can drain your battery much faster too. My 650 ego can last 4-5 hours on regular resistance but only about 3 using lr carts when i'm vaping heavy.

One more thing: if you're a serious vaper you need to have several batts on hand at all times. I never leave home without at least three, all fully charged. This way it doesn't matter how long any particular one lasts; I've always got enough in reserve to get me through at least two days.

You can tell a genuine Joye from the knockoffs simply by measuring voltages: EGO: 3.2-4; knockoffs: 3.7 and up.

They make chargers that charge at a higher mah. Look at your charger (the part that your battery screws into) A typical ego charger charges at 420. A slow charger charges at 150 but can take a very long time. Rapid chargers charge at a higher mah, charging an ego in an hour or two depending on the Mah of your battery (650/900/1100/1300 etc.) The quicker it takes to charge your battery, the sooner you can use it again but you probably will be replacing it sooner.
