I have only been vaping for about 6-7 weeks now after a 40 year smoking habit. I only have had a few analogs here and there during this time and I am noticing some interesting changes. This really makes quitting alot easier plus I am really enjoying vaping. I never did have a noticeable smoker's cough however now in the last week or so I've started having a cough. I also have more of wheesing sound in my lungs than I used to. I am chalking it up to my lungs starting to clear. Has anyone else experienced these effects when converting from analogs to vaping? I am vaping mainly a PG/VG blend in my juices.

Just the opposite for me. 37 years a 2/pack/day Marlboro smoker. Within a week the wheezing STOPPED and my lungs have cleared some, but not coughing up junk. You might be developing an allergy to PG. Try some 100% VG ejuice and see how you do.

Congrats on giving them up. Later is better than never for both of us !

Don't try to scare the guy!

What you're experiencing, according to all that's written out there about stopping smoking and starting vaping, is fairly normal. One key item here, as it is in all of life, is that what you experience, how you experience it, when you experience it, and how long you experience it, will be largely based upon your own individual physiology.

Coughing, wheezing, sore throat, sinus troubles, and a few other fun things seem to come along in the early stages of vaping. Yes, your lungs do start to "clear" themselves of tar and other associated tobacco byproducts. Beyond some people having sensitivities to PG and/or VG, you are teaching your body new tricks. You are inhaling something new that you've never inhaled before and your body has to get used to it. Much as you had to get used to inhaling tobacco smoke. For those that do not have a natural sensitivity to the ingredients in eliquid, these symptoms seem to pass in fairly short order. And your lungs clearing and having a cough doesn't necessarily mean you're coughing up a bunch of stuff. I cough much less since quitting smoking and starting vaping about 2 1/2 months ago. I had the sore throat and coughing period a while back, but it didn't last long. And I did have some wheezing that came when my smoking wheezing had gone away. Seems to be associated a bit with whether I was vaping really heavy that day or not.

Congrats on making the change.

your better then me man. i'm too impulsive. if i had a feeling it was the PG i would contact a local dealer in Georgia and have them meet you somewhere and drop it off. I had a itch to get different flavor so i contacted a local vendor and he met me half way so i could get it. I also met another one at the warehouse where they mail it out of. I'm a pain in the ... though when I really want a new product LOL.

Cheers.

For some people it happens right away, and some it happens weeks or months later, but most people get it. It happened to me a day or two after I began vaping. I woke up in the morning with my sinuses all stuffed up and i was coughing up some of the foulest stuff. I couldn't breath very well due to being stuffy and I wanted to stop vaping because I couldn't taste it suddenly (try plugging your nose and vape something. No taste) and I thought it was vaping causing me to feel this terrible. Well, I stuck it out and a few days later I was "cleared out", well, mostly. I still am smoking a couple a night usually, though sometimes I don't. I still have a slight cough, but I think it's mainly the VG, which is a more wet vape than PG, even at a 50/50 ratio. I noticed I had a much dryer cough when I was vaping 80/20 pg/vg, and now that I am back to 50/50 it's a bit mroe wet of a cough.

Hi. I quit analogs 5 weeks ago (yesterday), smoking no analogs since. Yesterday I started to cough. Sometimes I cough up a little, sometimes not. It is not as bad today, but I woke myself up last night coughing, I smoked for over 40 years, about 1 PAD for the first 20 or so and between 6-10 for the next 10 and about 3-6 for the next ten years, except for on those bad days, when I smoked 10 analogs a day. I would smoke light or ultra light, but I always smoked...every day. I quit for about 3 weeks last year and it was agony, just agony. This has been almost too easy. I started with 11mg nic, but this time, I ordered 6mg and just started those today. The 11mg made me jittery if I smoked about what an analog would be.
Anyway, I would be considered a long time lighter smoker and I am coughing now after 5 weeks, so I think from what I have read on many websites, this is normal for some of us.
I am so grateful that someone came up with this. I never thought I would quit and I think anything that helps us smokers is wonderful. Best of luck to you.

Thanks all for your posts. At this point I'm thinking it might be a PG sensitivity. I was doing fine until I got my Riva and about 8 VG/PG blend juices. That's when I started having the negative effects. I have stopped using the blended juices and it seems to be getting better. I have a 30ml bottle of some of my first juice I ordered which I "think":2cool: is more VG. The blended actually would hit my throat and make me cough. What I went back to doesn't do that. Plus it would leave more of an unpleasant after taste and actually I noticed my lips were getting a little sore and swollen with it. Things are going back to normal and I am ordering some 100% VG juice to verify my theory.

I believe PG based juice was causing me serious problems: Muscle cramps, Kidney pain, and ........ mainly. I have ordered 100% VG and am steeping some and have more coming. Meanwhile I'm smoking 10 analogs a day-way less than the 30 I was 6 weeks ago. I hope the VG does the trick.

What do you mean "steeping some"??

sometimes you get flavors that just seem very mild, or flavorless. Most times these just need to steep for a while. Take the cap off and let it the bottle sit for a week. The flavor will wake up on its own as it steeps.

If you are using drops, chances are that youll notice this happening on your own. You know, youll try a new flavor and just be like... eh... but a week or so later you try it again and are amazed at how good it is.

Interesting. Thanks for the advice. Great thread by the way. I was wondering why I seemed to be coughing a little more myself but it seems to be subsiding as days go on. Only been vaping for about 3 weeks.

I'm so happy to finally get a definition for steeping!

As for the cough.............I've been completely analog free for 3 weeks, and had a cough about 1 week into vaping. Smoked 47 yrs, about 2 PAD. I've noticed that I don't wheeze any more, and my lung capacity seems much better already! Love it!
