Hello All. My sincerest apologies if this has been covered somewhere within these forums. I've been reading for the past 12 hrs and haven't come across a definite answer. I've only been vaping for less than 2 weeks and I'm already ready to upgrade my device. During all my reading and youtube watching I came across a thread regarding the Sigelei Zmax Mini in Colours, found a site selling it and bought it but I don't think it comes with batteries.

Which takes me to my dilemma. The ONLY thing I'm sure of is the SZM takes (1) 18350 battery. I've come across more than one site that says not to use unprotected batteries yet everything else I've read in trying to find what battery I need says this device only uses unprotected; so I'm stumped.

I tried my best to read all 32 pages of this thread - SJ Sigelei Stainless Steel ZMax V2, ZMax Mini Discussion/Support/Therapy Group - but again, haven't been able to nail down a concrete answer and my page 25 my eyes started to give out. I don't have enough post in new member area so I couldn't post my question in that ^ thread.

I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could let me know the exact batteries I need to buy. I cant stay awake any longer so even a link would help me a lot.

Thanks in advance.

You need 18350 IMRs. Protected batteries can't handle the current draw of a VV/VW device. The advice you see about only using protected batteries is out of date and I wish vendors would remove those references from their websites. IMRs are not protected, but they are safe chemistry. That means that in the event of a catastrophic failure they vent went gas and heat. Protected batteries on the other hand, vent with flame.

Protected batteries use a PCB to prevent you from over discharging your batteries in normal use or from rapid discharge in the event of a dead short. The electronics inside the Zmax mini provide the same protection. In the worst case scenario, though, none of the protection will matter - which is one of the reasons why people will generally recommend using IMRs even in mechanical devices.

Hope that helps,

JJ

Thank you. I was doing some more reading and my take away was the SZM has it's own built in protection which is why the need for unprotected battery.

Using a protected battery in a protected device could possibly cause the built in protection of the device to fail resulting in a not so prettt ending.

Did I get that right?
